I have used hundreds of imation (ricohjpnr01) disks and they are the best. Kprobe scans are always good at 4x, 6x, 8x (most of my burning is at 6x as it seems slightlly beter than the other speeds). The imations are too expensive (and getting harder to find). I bought 6 15 packs and 1 50 pack of the maxell. All are the same ricohjpnr01 as the imation. I have burned a few out of each pack and scanned with kprobe (to make sure) and these are the same great ricohjpnr01 that I am used to. They burn great at 8x on my mad dog 16x burner (rebadged nec3500) with factory installed firmware (2.f6). Has burned great on several firmwares on my liteon (all speed hacked). I am currently using vsob (851s@832s).

The only way these will work, burning with my Lite-On 451s & played in my CyberHome 300 is if I burn at 2.4x. They will burn up to 4x but then I have nothing but skips & freezes throughout. I also burn using booktype DVD-ROM. These are Ricoh. My TDK Ricoh's did not have this problem. Very disappointing. I thought getting Maxell's would be the best I could get.

Played about half the time on APEX AD-2600, but I completely blame this on the inexpensive player. The same backed up movies played on the three other players I tried. Plus I was burning at 8x speed when it's only rated for 4x. Note that the JVC XV-N40BK, which is quite affordable, does play DVD+R's burnt the way I described though the manual and box don't advertise +R compatability. I also believe that instead of blaming any media for problems, always check the burning program, the burner, or the player first. An HP burner will play DVD+R on a Panasonic RP62 because it burns it as a DVD-ROM, but if a Plextor is used the Panasonic won't accept it.

I expected Maxell's 4x DVD+R media to be made by Maxell as "MAXELL 001" is in Philips' list of certified 4x media but the ones I've got are "RICOHJPNR01" media.
Anyway I've had no problems with them. A full 4.37 GB DVD is burned in about 14:20 on my NEC ND-1100A and read back on my Lite-On DVD-ROM in < 5 min (average speed just over 12x).
