had a few probs to start with using bulpaq orange, but checked on this site what worked well. changed to various makes using rytek g04 and get one coaster about every twenty burns.

however i have another problem that is not caused by the drive but windows i think.

i am using xp, and i now have the situation that neither this or the samsung dvdrom fitted recognise dvd+rw both blank and previously written. Possibly since service pack 2 installed but cant be sure.

any ideas?

thanks
Phil

Will not burn 8x TDK media, infact it won't even recognize the disk. Guess it's not supported, and probably never will be. Not sure if disks are backwards compatible for 8x to burn at 4x speeds. I do have Firmware 2.60 and still does not read. Kind of dissapointing. I've had it misburn a few times on a DVD-RW. (I could erase the damage though which is cool) Other than that it burns fine.

Maxell DVD+R's work great at 4x speed and it reads the DVD+/- R/W's fine.

Have used the DD0203 for 6 months now & have had no problem burning DVD-R & DVD-RW. They play in my Panasonic & Koss DVD players perfectly. I don't burn + media, except for data since my Panasonic won't read + media. Almost 90% of the discs are Ritek, -R, +RW & -RW.

Anybody know if the firmware for the DD0201 would be compatible with the DD0203?

Bought two optorites (aka MSI DR4-A) in March/April. both built in september 2003 firmware 2.17. Upgraded both to 2.50E then 2.60E.

using/used ...

DVD Decrypter 3.2.1.0
DVD Shrink 3.17
Nero 5.5.10.45
Nero 5.5.10.54
Nero 5.5.10.56

CD-R (ritek dye) works but my LITE-ON LTR-48246S CDRW is much better (for PS2 at least). Haven't tried HD-BURN yet. A bit worried about trusting data to a non-standard disc format, but may-be one day.

The latest firmware (I believe but am NOT guaranteeing) is located at AccessTek. Same model number (DD0201) They have both a v2.60E (which would NOT work) AND a v2.60I that DID upgrade the firmware.

Flashing the writer sucks. Early flash program screwed up the firmware so I RMA'd it. Got a new one with 2.50 firmware. Works well (also have one with 2.30) and I can't complain. Buy one today and I wouldn't complain, buy one six months ago and you'd be 50/50.

I installed this drive 3 days ago and immediately upgraded the firmware to the newest 2.6.I've burnt 1 HP DVD+RW and 1 TDK DVD-R with no problems. So far this is a good 4X burner for $50 after rebates and discounts!

It's really bad !!!
I burned 1 ARITA DVD+R, 8 Plantinum DVD-R, 1 HP DVD+RW.
All failed!!!
;-C My money . . .
I am going to return it.

If you know what you're doing this is a great burner (100$ in November when my friend spent 200$ on a same specs SONY)... HD-burn works great. Great cheap way of backing up your system......

The media you use requires some attention: if you go w/ junk media (khypermedia and others...) it's going to be successful(90%) but not playable all the way long on older stand alone players. But for example I used Compusa DVD-R and DVD+R and didn't have any problems.
My way to go: buy a 25-50 DVD spindle (+ or -), copy 4-5 movies, check on your DVD player (insert DVD and browse/skip from chapt 1 to last one). If all good, buy another one, if problems return the spindle...as I said 0 problems w/ compusa media...

this drive sucks. it works just fine with dvd+r's. but with dvd-r's, its another story.. if you have problems with burning dvd-r's at 4x.. try 2x or lower. the media i used were ritek g04's for dvd-r's and various dvd+r's discs. their site lists ritek as working and recommended brand for it. however, at 4x, burn is fine but readability is not. even the drive itself cannot read it. anyhow, i tried to upgrade to firmware 2.50 and now my drive is dead. i RMA'd it before and they sent it back to me with a working drive. now its dead again due to a bad flash (i used a DOS flasher). so i do not recommend this drive unless you just want to burn at 2x with dvd-r's or 4x with dvd+r's.

Hi,
I have an OPTORITE dd0201 (2.50E).
I never had problems except this one.
I'm backing up (different softwares, the result doesn not change) some movies on DVD+R (different brands, the result is the same).
I don't get any error.
When playing (with any player/stand alone /drive) some of them are not readable beyond 40-50% of the movie (while before it's all perfect). It's as if the disc was massively scratched after a certain point (but the disc is PERFECT).
This for now never happened w/ DVD-R (but I burned only 4 DVD-R).
Is it my drive ?
The media (imation or kypermedia).
thank you in advance

Need to download the latest firmware and drivers from www.optorite.com, but their website says "Under Construction". Its ridiculous that they don't have a redundant server so now I can't get any drivers or anything from them. What kind of a Cracker Jack company is this?

Of course, I can't get the drive to even read anything...let alone write anything.

I've had my DD0203 for about a year now. Not a single issue about it. Just have your software and you're ready to go with an ease of use. Basically it gets the done job just like any other brand named DVDwriter out in the market. Affordable price! Check it out for yourself and get it. You won't regret it, GUARANTEE!

Had no real problems with this drive until got some Infiniti 2x (Sony) cheap from www.CCLComputers.co.uk (£7 for 25) - would only recognise them occasionaly. Emailed Optorite two weeks ago, they asked me to email them media code. Did this and have never heard since!!!!

Great dvd burner. Used for 3 months with no problems as yet. Has fast extraction times nd fast seek times for dvd movies cds. Now, flashed with latest date 11/26/2003. Using Decrypter, DVD Shrink, amd Nero Burning Rom Ultra 6.3.0.2 for backups and Sonic MyDVD for home-movies vcd's. Used high quality media, Imiation, Memorex, TDK, and Maxwell with no problems. Verbatim 2X dvd-r media is little problematic playing on PC dvd rom drives opposed TV dvd players. It is not the burner; my cousin have a LITEON 411S 4x dual dvd burner and media acts the same way after doing a movie backup. It came with B's Recorder Gold 5; not bad burning software. NTI CD & DVD-Maker 6.5 Platinum also recoqnized the drive. Have not tried HD burn as yet. Only problem, it does not like a hot case, the cooler the case the better.

As this came from the box I had troubles. Disks would burn but then PC would lock with green LED on the drive flashing and disk draw would not open.

This was fixed with firmware 2.30 upgrade.

However noticed burning speed seemed slow.
Found DMA settingunder windows XP set to use DMA if available, but it was setting itself to PIO only.

Found an newer firmware upgrade on the Optorite site (cant remember the number but higher than 2.30)

DMA now active and all seems OK now

I received this burner as a gift for Christmas and have been completely satisfied. I placed it in a USB 2.0 external box for convenience and flashed it with the latest firmware version. I have only burned Verbatim's and Ritek’s but I have not had a lot of coasters. In fact the worst ones were the Verbatim's and that was the disc not the burner (obvious flaws in the discs). The Ritek’s I only burn at 2x since at 4x I have had a few coasters, but none at 2x. Over all I have burned well over 100 discs in the 2 months I have had it (thanks to netflix and the local library) and had around 3 bad burns not due to poor media. I have used it on 2 different PC’s (since it is in a USB box it is easy to move) and never had any problem there either. Overall I gave it an 8 since the 4x occasionally has issues (but that may be due to the USB 2.0 box not the burner). My friend has the same burner and has never had any issues or bad burns.

For HD-BURN,try B's Recorder Gold 5.In my case,it worked well than Nero.

Use the 2.5 upgrade with care. After flashing from 2.3 to 2.5 my DD0201 drive would not even start to copy a dvd. I tried several programs to write with, Nero, CloneDvd and a couple of others. I flashed back to 2.3 and it worked again. Thought I might give it one more try, so downloaded a new copy of 2.5E and flashed. Same results, maybe I did something wrong, but it just wouldn't work for me. It would work with CD's just not DVD's.

a snap to set up, use, and upgrade. I haven't had any trouble with it period. Purchased from Newegg.com. The only complaint... the DVD suite and Nero are a version out of date in the package I received. Not a big deal for me.

I have the DD0201 drive and have had some problems when I try to copy a copy. The copies I make seem to play on my Apex player, but neither my pioneer dvd rom drive or the Optorite drive can read all the way through on most copies. I use CloneDvd (elby version) and AnyDvd to backup my DVD's. One more thing, what does the new 2.5 firmware do?

I just received a new one from Optorite after the old one wouldn't work when flashing 2.23. It is manufactured in July 2003 vs the June 2003 old one. Haven't checked to see what version of firmware they sent it with. So far so good. I'll be burning dvd's this weekend.. We'll see
