I dont know if this is the same writer I was given for Xmas 2006 Best I can trace its an IDEH16X/DVDRW 2016.

Made by BTC a bigger load of C**P you could buy I first had an external version of this and it trashed my PC fool that I am I got an internal one thinking it would be better no chance.

I upgraded the firmware tonight and now nothing at all at least previously it used to give me some kind of a burn that would be recognised by my DVD home player now nothing.

I would NEVER recommend one of these to anyone BTC is as much use as a plastic frying pan they ignore all emails and requests for help.

If anyone can advise me then please do so I have left my email public for conatct

I have had this drive for over 7 months now and have burned over 100 DVD's with no problems. I placed the device in a Plumax 525c2 external USB 2.0 cabinet. I have tested Memorex 4x -R, +RW, and -RW 1x media, along with TDK 4x -R, GQ -R and FujiFilm 4x -R. All worked like a charm

Excellent writer, one thing.....don't blame the writer blame bad media!

I have one since Dec (10 weeks) and it had performed flawlessly on 3 different kinds of media (DVD R+ & RW+s) and 3-4 CDRs & RWs. I like the high CD R burning & reading speed, low noise & smooth operation. Got it for a great price, can't ask for more.

My previous comment on PRODIS media (-R) disk turning up as coasters was the problem with the media.

On closer inspection all disks had smears, dust particles and circular scratches on them !!

Took them back to BestBuy and got my money back.
Now using G04 Riteks and not a problem
Very happy with the drive, have burnet over 80 DVDs so far.

All from MiniDV and some from Hi8 tapes (Pinnacle to make the DVD image and Roxio to burn.

Bought this drive over a month ago, used about 7 different types of dvd media on it ranging from no name crap to verbatim -r and memorex +r, used all different types of cd media (burnt about 40 - 50 disks both dvd and cd so far) and so far had 1 coaster (a verbatim -r) had no problems reading and dvd shrink burns perfectly with it. only reason I mark this down 1 point from 10 is because as yet it does'nt support bitsetting (which I need for my wharfedale standalone to change +r to -rom) Read loads of bad comments about this drive and only thing I can suggest is YOU are doing something wrong. Geez I use a pIII 500MHZ with 256mb ram (thats lower than recomend)

Here we have a saying, A bad worksman always blames his tools.

P.S Marco hurry the f*** up with bitsetting please :)

I don't understand what all the negativity is about. I have used several media brands (Sony, Nashua, Philips) and all worked just fine. The only problem I had was with Datawrite Classic Red -R (=Princo). But Princo itself sucks! 3 out of 9 are doomed to fail on any drive. Read the papers and do your homework before you buy cheap disks. You want quallity, buy quallity! But don't blame the drive for it. This drive is okay! Comparing the price it is equal to ie: NEC 1300a (which doesn't swallow as much media brands as this drive), so it is a close match with well known brands of writers. I rest my case.

No prob's so far though would not cooperate at all with Nashua dvd+RW discs. The RiDATA that came with it was fine as are Packard Bell. Paid 87.96 GBP inc'VAT

Writing :
DVD+-R : 4x
DVD+-RW : 2x - they wrote it could write DVD+RW at 4x but it was not really true.
CD-R : 40x
CD-RW : 24x
Reading :
CD-ROM 40x
CD-RW 32x
DVD-ROM 12x
Those values are checked (I've used Smart ripper and Nero). The values was not "exactly" as i wrote but it should be max values this drive can do with.
I've bought it for about 125 USD (about because the recalculation) in a regular shop.

Got this as a rebadged ('Emprex') drive from Fry's for $80.

After installing and flashing with the latest firmware, it seems to burn DVD-R and +R just fine. A couple of coasters, but I think it may be due to user error or media quality (used Fry's GQ brand - LEADDATA01 - which has a questionable reputation).

Using DVD Shrink, I backed up about 20 movies in reauthor mode and they all play fine.

This is my first DVD burner and overall it seems to be fine for the price.

CD-R burning seems inconsistent WRT media. I have some 12x media that burns fine at 24x; OTOH, some 32x labelled media won't burn unless the drive is listed as 24x in Nero.

It could just be a Nero issue.

I cant say how terrible this drive is... there are no words... From what I've experienced and read from this forum, this drive is VERY unreliable and you are more likely to win 1000 000 euros in the lottery than getting this drive to work!! Yes, it's that bad. I cant write a single DVD with this drive, I've tried 10 different types of DVD-R's, DVD+R's, DVD-rw and DVD+rw, none get recognized by the drive. Nero just keeps saying, that there is no media in the drive!!!

I bought it from Saturn, Germany for 109 euros. Thought it was a big bargain, but ended up with Chinese shit in my hand. DON'T BUY IT!!!!

Have succeded to burn only one video DVD-R but plays jerky on most of DVD Players. Then, have ruined 4 DVD-R at 7€ each. Even my CD-RWs cannot be read or re-written.

Very good writer so far. Updated to v47 firmware and no problems burning DVD video, DVD images or data on the Bulkpaq orange 4x -r and Ridata 2.4x +RW discs I have tried. Very fast CD writing too. All written using Nero 6. At only £79.99, a real bargain.
