Cd's burn perfect and fast. DVD's burn fast at 4x, but SOMETIMES you may get 1 or 2 verify errors (BUT that's only becuase of the cheap DVD blanks I use). High quality DVDs will work perfect. Generic or unknown cheap DVD's work perfect too, maybe an error here or there at times, but it's all good. Writes DVD's that work everywhere. My very old DVD Player palys them, my Xbox Plays them, and my computer does. Anywhere.

Good buy, and might I add the Best Price @ $200 is false, now it is pretty cheap. I got mine for $75 after $50 MIR @ OfficeMax. MAKE SURE YOU UPDATE TO NEWEST DRIVER (151) availible @ Micro Advantage's support page.

I got this drive in March or so of '04 for about $80 with a rebate. So far it's burned 300-400 dvds and cds. It burns everything I throw at it and they all play great in my Philips dvd player and Playstation 2. Very reliable burner.

Comments posted by Solari from United States, June 09, 2005. Rated this writer 10 of 10.

It worked great for a year and then just stopped working. Not even reading any DVD media (not even pre-recorded DVD-9s). CDs still work fine.
I liked this drive a lot, but dying after just one year and 30+ DVD burns is not acceptable !
Had it not stopped working, I would have rated this drive 9

Works great and the newest firmware (0051) can be found at
http://www.btc.com.tw/english/3-1-4driver_download_dvd_dual.htm.
Adds a lot of new disk types to the supported list.

really good drive now with the newest firmware

This is a very good burner on my Mac (in a FireWire case). Critical issue, however: Make sure your burner's firmware is up to date! Mine was a rev "38" while, as of this date, rev "50" is the latest. I could not burn a DVD-R that would play in all of my players (only some of them) while my Pioneer 104 (that's inside my Mac) has no problem burning 100% compatible DVD-R's. Turned out the firmware update resolved the problem completely. Obviously, you'll need to install the burner in a PC running W2K or XP in order to run the updater. Once done and returned to the FireWire enclosure, however, the unit burns like a champ. Purchased at OfficeMax for $70 a number of months ago.

I picked this up at OfficeMax on clearance for $49.99 Flashed it to firmware ver 50 and works like a charm. Very quiet, no problems what so ever. I was skeptical when I bought it as I had never had any experience with this brand. Found out it is a rebadged BTC. Never did like BTC though.

I got this burner from OfficeMax back in December for $80 after rebate. Decent drive overall thus far. The firmware flash utility does not work on my machine which an nforce2-based Abit NF7-S motherboard. It doesn't see the drive due to a compatibility issue with the onboard IDE controller. I was able to pull the drive from this machine and flash it on my old machine, a Pentium II with an Intel 440LX motherboard running Win98.

I have sucessfully made home movie and TV show recording DVD's on Memorex -R's, Fuji +R's and Imation -R's (made by Ritek), Memorex +RW's, a Fuji +RW and the RiData +RW that came with the drive. My Emerson EWD2202 DVD player (actually, a DVD/VHS combo) plays all these discs just fine. I used Ulead DVD Movie Factory 2.5 SE to make the home movie DVD's and the Winfast PVR program that came with my Leadtek Winfast TV2000XP TV tuner/capture card to make the TV show DVD's.

This drive writes to the Memorex +RW's at 4x (says 2.4x max for +RW's on the box).

Purchased this item from office depot for $129 with $50 rebate. The first one I got had a box that had shipping problems. I burned one dvd using memorex +r dvd media and it burned fine however would not play on my panasonic s35 player. Then next day it would read but not write on imitation 1x media then it would not read anything. I returned in and got a new one. The next one had the same problems, difficulty reading and then I read the post about the firmware. I upgraded the firmware from 37 to 45 from the webpage tool. Now it did not read the Memorax +r I just made a backup of however it did make a good backup on the included +rw media they gave in the box. This did play on the panasonic s35 dvd player which states it only can play back dvd-r. I will go ahead and try again tonight with different media and post it when I get more results. I will wait to send in the rebate before keeping this drive until I feel it has no problems. I bought a spindle of 25 imitations media and will return them to get something else. They are too slow. The drive goes pretty fast with the xcopy express.

This has got to be the BEST dvd burner for the price I paid. (29.99 USD) So far, I've burned about 600+ dvd-r/w's and dvd+r/w's. No coasters whatsoever. Ritek brand discs, memorex, hp, imation, optodisc, verbatim and much more. From high dollar to cheap discs, this burns them all!!

Comments posted by edward from United States, February 24, 2004. Rated this writer 10 of 10.

For the cost of this drive you can't beat it. I am using Ritek 4x DVD-R's and so far 150 successful burns. It also likes Memorex 2.4X DVD+RW's. I had lots of issues with Liquid Video so I stay away from them. Importantly, use Nero 6 or later. Nero 5.5 was nothing but trouble on this drive. I had little success with any media. I did not try Easy DVD Creator since most others did not like it.

I just wanted to give an update on this drive. I gave it a 9 about a month ago. I want to now give it a ten. I have burned over 50 DVD's and haven't had a single coaster. In my original post I thought I had one but it actually worked, it just took a little longer to load than the others. I've used about 5 Fujifilm DVD+R & 1 DVD+RW, 20 Maxwell DVD+R, and 30 Memorex DVD+R with no problems. I haven't tried any DVD-R yet but that's only because the +R is going so great. So far the Memorex is my favorite.

Burns great at 2.4x with Imation DVD+R and RiData DVD+RW. Burns every cd-r/w flawlessly. No coasters yet. Firmware is 048. Awesome burner for the money.

Tried just about all the locally available DVD+RW media and nothing works, this drive made coasters of several DVD+RW's! . Unfortunately I didn't test it out properly before cutting the UPC out of the box and sending in the MIR. Haven't received the MIR yet. I have mailed tech support and they sent a RMA, but now I can't find the original proof of purchase ! Me or wife must have thrown it away. I'm now stuck with this piece of crap. Firmware was upgraded to latest version (48) etc.

I've been using this drive with Memorex DVD+R disks burning at 4X with no problems. I upgraded to the 048 firmware and it works perfectly. I use Roxio Classic Creator. I got mine for $50 and it's paid for itself several times over already. I would give it a 10 but I got one coaster using a Fujifilm DVD-R. It may have been the media though.

I had problems with memorex rw at first then updated the firmware works in my dvd player now firmware 048 also shrinks been updated to ver 3.13 lots of up datesthis drive been great for the money ,also in taiwan this drives been rated best of show for the money its a BTC 1004IM

I give it an 9 so far, with limited use...I am using DVD Shrink 3.05 Beta for ripping and Nero 5.5 (latest update) for burning.

I had some problems with Memorex +R and + RW at first, but then after the firmware upgrade, everyhthing worked fine. Definitely download (www.microadvantage.net) the firmware upgrade (about 1 meg), run the update and reboot.

I was able to burn my backup of Outside Providence in 14 minutes on Memorex +RW....it showed a write speed of 4X in Nero...before the upgrade, the same disc showed a write speed of 2.4X...
