Do not waste your time with this piece of junk. I have suffered with it for a year and burned a lot of disks. It takes forewer to recognize a disk in the drive (while the latest M$ Windows is frosen, of course). It burns most 4x - 8x media reliably only at 4x, but it is supposed to be a 12x drive! If you choose a higher speed, it burns a part of the disk and switches back to 4x. You can actually see different patterns on the disk afterwards. It recognizes 16x media only as 1x. The firmware upgrade from the vendor is ancient and does not change anything. Waste of $30.

Excellent burner and the only minor problems I've had have been software and not hardware related.
$60.00 off of eBay brand new so no complaints here and the firmware update was *EASY* if you follow their instructions ;)

Advantages:Cheap and reliable, records both +/- formats
Dis: Doesn't come in balck face and Artec made it with a very hard to understand guide on updating the firmware

Bought it at Fry's as an update to my Optorite DD0203.
But one thing strikes right away:
Fry's GQ DVD+R rated at 2.4-4X records only at 1X (one-X) while recording at 2.4X on the Optorite. In both cases using Nero.
Can't tell if it is the media or the recorder

Burns everything -/+. I am putting it through a test burning home movies and old 8mm. Doing great so far. Wish it came in a black face. Needs more support (firmware) for cheaped media. Paid $80 at Frys.
