| This was working great for a little over a year. Got less than 10 coasters over that time of burning hundreds of discs, and it did freeze on me while burning a few times. Now my computer running Windows XP Home SP2 just doesn't recognize it. It shows it as an unknown usb device in "Device Manager", and it doesn't even show up in "My Computer". Tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the installation program several times. It doesn't work. Windows says the driver is not installed(Code 28), and it also says the device is not configured correctly(Code 1). I thought the driver was suppose to be in the installation disc. I followed the instructions in the "Found New Hardware Wizard", but I can't get it to work. Does anybody know what to do? Can you post a link to get the driver? I tried the HP website, and they offered a driver/installation disc for sale and a firmware upgrade (ch16). I already have the upgrade and I don't need the installation disc because I already have it. Any help would be appreciated. Comments posted by Raymond from Canada, April 16, 2006. | I have this HP dvd630e writer. I've never had a problem until recently. The unit has stopped working. There is a strange whistle noise coming from the power pack unit. I ordered a power pack thru HP website. Power pack arrived today and it still whistles and will not power on. | I'm a newbie to DVD copying, but know computers very well. I've now wasted about 20 dvd+r 8x blanks (hp brand, but don't know who hp bought them from. The dang thing will write between 1% and 25% of the disk and then fail. I've tried several programs to do this- Nero, DVDFab Gold, DVDClone, CloneDVD Pro, and CloneDVD2. I've gone with default setting, tried slowing it down, anything I could think of. Nothing seems to help. Tech support comes next. Oh joy. Comments posted by Lyle from United States, March 08, 2005. | Bought the HP dvd writer dvd630e at Walmart for $169. It's a USB 2, and burns well for me, I've used some cheap Memorex dvd+r and some Verbatum dvd+r and they have played back fine in all my home players and PC's. I used 1clickdvdcopy and had good results copying previously recorded dvds and files from my hard drive. No coasters yet. I have not tried using any of the software bundled with the unit, but you have to load Record Now software on your computer to update the firmware. | I only purchased this burner to take on the road whenever I need it on vaca or need to be mobile. I've only used it to make copies (using nero), and one or two projects using dvd workshop 2. | I purchased this burner a few days ago and have had nothng but problems. I have been using DVDShrink and Nero 6 Recode to make DVDs and have tried burning to DVD+RW, DVD-R and DVD+R. So far I have attempted about 20 burns and of the 20 only 2 worked. I have yet to have a successful burn to the DVD-R and DVD+R (ony the RW worked). AFter spending hours and hours trying to trouble-shoot I am giving up and returning it tomorrow. Stay clear of this burner. Comments posted by Devin from Canada, November 23, 2004.
