Reliable drive so far, VERY quiet. I have burned a dozen or so DVD- Fuji disks with excellent results. However, I too wonder about the reason the 4X discs will only burn at 2X with nero express. Any ideas about this would be welcome. Firmware upgrade? Other softwware packages? HOpe the gurus can help.

I received this burner a week ago and I finally got to test it out last night. I bought Fujifilm DVD+R 4.7GB 25 Pack, They are purple in color on the burnable side and silver on the other side. Made 2 DVD's through Nero Vision Express. Tried them out in 2 different DVD players and they worked Awesome! This is a great burner and I can't wait to try out the DVD+R DL. This was my first time ever burning DVD's and it was a great experience and I'm 2 for 2 right now, no discs wasted yet.

Bought this drive at Bestbuy on Tuesday. It seems to be a reliable dvd writer so far. I have tried Ritek's( dvd-r@2x) and TDK's(dvd+r@4x).The only problem that I have so far really isn't that big of a deal, its just that I miss the ability to burn my 4x @ 8x.I have not had the chance to try any 8x media yet. The only reason I gave this drive an 8 was because I haven't been able to find any dvd+r dl media yet. Drive is even more silent than my plextor 708.

I got the drive today and am already planning on returning it, I burned some 'items' that would not play on my 'video game system' and I also have the DRU 510A and that is a CHAMP. I would recommend the 530A (the 510A upgrade) and stay away from this drive, especially since dual layer discs are SO NEW....like anything it takes practice to get it right.

Burned my Verbatim 8x and Ritek 8x at 6x speed. Nero info tool and other utilities indicates it is only a 4x drive. I guess I might need a firmware upgrade or download patches? Disks play fine in my set top players. DL media, if you can find it, is about $5.50. I'll wait till it comes down in price. If any one reading this know how to fix the 4x glitch

Bought the drive no problems yet. Waiting for DVD+R DL media to come out. I was a bit disappointed that Sony did not provide one blanc DVD+R DL with the recorder. I have read that Lite-on did provide a blanc DVD+R DL disc with it's recorder.
Discovered something funny the NERO software. Nero Recode is not on the Sony Nero 6 version, however if you upgrade Nero Vision Express with the latest update from www.nero.com it's there.
