Universal Media Server is a DLNA-compliant UPnP Media Server. It was originally based on PS3 Media Server by shagrath. UMS was started by SubJunk, an official developer of PMS, in order to ensure greater stability and file-compatibility. Universal Media Server supports all major operating systems, with versions for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. The program streams or transcodes video, audio and image formats with little or no configuration. It is powered by FFmpeg, MEncoder, tsMuxeR, MediaInfo and more, which combine to offer support for a wide range of media formats.

Version history / Release notes / Changelog

This release is pretty big! We did a lot of testing for stability and included some things that took a while to develop, which has resulted in a massive changelog as other changes trickled in in the meantime.

We have made improvements to filename parsing and metadata lookups, support for music, UPnP searching, improved support for Samsung TVs, and a lot of stability and performance improvements.

We also pre-released it last week on Patreon for subscribers, so if you want to support us and get access to releases and preview versions early, please sign up.

Thanks to everyone who helped put this together!

The new version is really bad, I can no longer watch movies I have on my computer through my ps4. I uninstalled and went back to version 9.8.0.

I've tested Universal Media Server and it works well with my Samsung Bluray player. My primary DLNA server is Serviio since it's faster for me but occasionally Serviio has a problem with a video file type and I then switch to Universal Media Server.
I've tried many of the DLNA media servers and the only ones I like are Universal Media Server and Serviio.
