I've been using this for over a year now. Have been very happy with it. But the latest 2 spindles that I got, most failed either on burning the 2nd layer or reading the 2nd layer after successful burn. So I'm thinking of switching over to Verbatum.

Someone here complained that NEC 3550 does not burn (illegal media/disc error message). You have to upgrade the formware to 1.06 that is available on NEC site. Then it's work just fine on both 2x and 4x.

I have now burned 3 out of this spindle of 25 and not one will play on any drive except the Pioneer DVR-109 that burned it - neither the 3 PowerBooks' internal drives, the three PowerMacs I tried it on, nor the Jaston DVD player that previously would recognize and try to play anything I put into it.
The discs also burned incredibly slowly - 45minutes for 6.5Gb. The DVR-109 has the current firmware and continues to burn the Verbatim 2.4x DL discs I normally use as it previously did.
I am going to try to get these RiDATA discs exchanged for the reliable Verbatim 2.4x 10-packs I had been using with a 90%+ success rate.
So much for "knowledgable" co-workers singing the praises of RiDATA media's value...

No more Ritek/Ridata DL + or - R DLs for me. Purchased a 25 count spindle 02-28-'06 from Supermediastore.com @$2.00 ea. Media failed on every attempt (about a dozen total) with my NEC-3550A and LG GWA-4164B. Verbatim DL media works without a hitch (so far) on both burners. I've also had no success with Ridata +R DL. Too bad; it's the lowest priced DL media around, and I've had good luck with their 4.7G -Rs. Hopefully, they'll get their act together, or Verbatim will lower their prices.

Completely unreliable media! I had a really bad feeling when my Pioneer DVR110D recognized this media as 2X only, even using the latest firmware from Nov. 30 2005.
Burnt two discs (at 2X - what a pain!) with both Nero and Alcohol 120% and the results are really disappointing. My dad's Philips DVP642 won't even start the disc and it works poorly on my Xbox - chapters at the beginning and ending of the disc play well, but the problem seems to be around the layer break.
Before trying these I had burnt a dozen of Verbatim's 4X DVD-R DL with excellent compatibility results and no problem at all.
NOT RECOMMENDED! Get Verbatim instead, they're twice the price but deliver what they promise.
