| This drive is great but a few things you good people should know. I have firmware A101 -Use DVD Shrink 3.2 in Win XP -Nero 6.3.1.26 (comes with LG burner) -Using Maxwell DVD+R's 8X 1- In DVD Shrink, (keep the default settings) Open your DVD and click on the Backup tab. Unclick the 'Region Free' and click on the Region you want, most people here will prolly use Region 1. Hit ok and make sure you select ISO IMAGE FILE in your backup target. Make the ISO. 2- When the ISO is finished open NERO EXPRESS and click on Disc Image or Saved Project, you will prolly have to make the pull down menu so it says all files so you can see the ISO image. 3- Select the BURN SPEED, set it to 4X, and that's pretty much it. | I'm very happy with this Burner, just bought it a week ago, and successfully burned 8 DVD-/+R with variuos brand/manufacture ID. Great Burner! | Just upgraded my DVD burner from the LG GSA-4040B (a great burner) to the LG GSA-4163B. Came with firmware version 1.02, went straight to LG website and downloaded the latest firmware (V1.04). Well.... approximately 10 burns later using DataWrite 'Fuji' 8x Speed Branded 4.7GB DVD-R I have NOT made 1 coaster yet. Another great DVD Burner from LG. | This burner may be great in burning CDs or DVDs. However, it cannot identify the DVD-RAM nor double layer DVD burnt with the software bundled with the writer. | Brilliant burner, have not created 1 coaster yet. Seems happy on all disc formats in nero +r -r -rw. I cannot seem to get maxell -r to work in dvd decrypter any suggestions...? latest firmware 1.0.3 but in nero it works fine. ?? Very very chuffed with it. Even a no brand disc this will eat anything. | WiIth firmware version 1.00. Absolute turkey of a burner. It could not write on any DVD + RW media I used. Update to v.1.03 bloody great burner. Very fast, no coasters, handled everything I threw at it. Go to LG website and update to v1.03 to get the best out of this burner. Firmware v.1.00 is crap. | I just got the burner today. My NEC ND-3520A wouldn't burn anything, it's on it's way back to the seller. I picked up the 4163B at Sam's club for $79. So far, I've wrote 4 DVD's using DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter, and burned with Nero Express. All play perfectly on my Apex 1200. I tried HP DVD+RW and Ritek 8X G05 DVD-Rs. | I seem to have no problems writing at 4x with 4x media but when I put in 8x RitekG05 discs, every single one is a coaster! | Currently the only burner on the market that can burn on all DVD media. Got it for a good price and burn speeds are pretty good. Only problem I've had so far is when I upgraded the firmware to A101. I wasn't able to burn/make DVDs with Nero as I kept getting a "could not write end of disc" error. It was able to burn images/iso's with CloneCD, but at a slow rate of ~2x. Burning CD-R's was also slow. However, upgraded to firmware revision A102 the next day and everything is burning fine again. DVD-R's are burning at 8x (max speed my media can burn at). Have burned 6 DVD's so far and they all were briefly tested on my Toshiba combo player and plays fine. Have made one audio file disc, plays fine. Getting some blank DVD+RW media soon and will test out. I would recommend this DVD writer. Fast burn speeds. Take caution when upgrading firmware. I couldn't find anything with the first revision, A101, so I took a chance. Was going to return it, but revision A102 seemed to fix my problems. Hope this helps. | I just got this burner (it is my first one) and I am more then pleased. It has not produced any coasters. It runs flawlessly. I have been backing up some DVDs (have dome 10 so far) and I have been using DVD Decrypter 3.5.0.2 and DVD Shrink 3.2 along with some Memorex DVD120 Home Video DVD-R in a 5 pack from Walmart. | Reading starts out slow (3x-6x)but picks up(10-13x). CAV reading speed. Can rip single layered ps2 games at (3-8 min) and dvd's dual and single (7-17 min). Will not burn dvd+r at 2.4x. | This is a great burner and an even better reader. Every single DVD i throw into it is read. Bitsetting does work, although it is for dvd+r single and dual layer but not +rw. The bitsetting also resets when the computer is restarted. It tends to get hot when its reading but it can read scratched and spin doctored dvd & cd's easily!
