| Installed without problems on to my W2K SP3 System, but kept getting Illegal Disc (using DID-R supplied by Dabs) error from Nero. Upgraded Firmware from 1.07 to 1.08, no joy. Nero to 6.3, no joy. Finally today Firmward from 1.08 to 1.09 and it worked. Nero wrote a disc just fine at 2x, even though discs and writer claim to be 4x. I will try other media and see what I get. I specially wanted +-R/RW and for the price this drive offered that. So 8/10 for the good price/drive but not much fun at the start when I thought I had bought a turkey. | Unlike the previous poster, I've had no problems with Nero 5.5.10.x recognizing the ND-1300A. For the 2 months that I've had this DVD drive I've had no problems and have generated no coasters. That said, I've only used Fuji 4x DVD-R discs with it, so my experiences with it have been rather narrowly focused. The only negative thing that I might comment on is that it is slower for reading CDs than my LiteOn CD burner drive is. | Just bought NEC 1300a. fw 1.07 Burned 3 DVDs without problems (2 DVD+R, 1 DVD-R, all Traxdata). Used DVD decrypter 3.1.7.0 via ISO mode (read - write). Plays well on standalone DVD. Initial problem was with NERO 5.5.10.0 (don't recognised writer), so upgraded NERO on 6.0.0.23- and recognise it. Another problem is that my dvd rom (LG DRD8160B) don't recognise such burned DVD-s. | Bought this earlier in the year and it has been a great drive. Made two coasters but they were mainly my fault because I started and stopped the recording during the burning process.I have had this drive for about 10 monts now and I have not regreted it at all. I use DVD Decrypter and Instant Copy and I have made only 2 coasters. Both times were my fault because I started and then I stopped the recording process. | Well, I own ND-1300A for 3 weeks now.Burned about 30 DVD-R's SAMSUNG 4X,MMORE 1X (at 2X !), INTENSO 1X (at 2X!), SENTINEL 1X (at 2X!).Several PHILIPS DVD +R 4X, and about 20 times re-burned MEMOREX DVD-RW.I destroyed just 1 (!) INTENSO DVD-R, probably becouse of copying at 2X instead of 1X.Firmware is 1.08 official.Played copies at several home DVD players low and mid quality (COMET,PANASONIC,PHILIPS) with NO PROBLEM.Payed for the burner 148 EURO.I think it's very good Quality/Price.What else to say except I recommend it to everyone. | This burner burns the cheapest 2X DVDs perfectly! I am using Promedia's DVD-R 4.7G "2X"(11-0090) that I paid only $.57/ea for and that includes delivery. My Toshiba SD-R5002 could only make crappy copies on these DVDs at 2X. I had burn at 1X to make good copies with the Toshiba. Not so with the NEC. The newer Nero versions recognize this drive and Nero is all I use for DVDs. I'll Report on 4X DVDs after I've used up my 2X supply. | It came with a TDK dvd+rw. I burnt it at 2.4 in Nero6 and put into my daewoo 3000n dvd player. Worked great! Need to try other media now... Also burnt an audio cd with memorex cdr at 16x. | No problems with +r, some with -r, even top brand (Verbatim with MCC mediacode) - they are pc-readable only, no set-top player compatibility. Problems with reading cds. | Just bought a nec 1300. and both nero and cdrwin wont find it. It works find with Stomp RecordMax, anyone else have that problem? Another thing about RecordMax: why can't I record at 2x with my 4x discs? | NEC is crap when it comes to customer service, support and firmwares! Herrie on the other hand is the saviour of NEC and thats the truth! Herrie is working on a 1.08V2 firmware that will support so many kinds of media that this drive will be selling even more than it has in the past and on top of it all 108v2 will support bitsetting for +R(W) (No other dual format drive is capable of this!!!). Also lots of 4x will be supported. I have the Sony DRU-510A(1.0D), Pioneer DVR-106D (>NIL: 1.07) & ordered a NEC ND1300A. Although NEC's support is crappy I think with the 1.08v2 firmware it's the best 4x +/-RW around, since the burning quality is a lot better the Pioneer A06/106D or any other drive I know of! | Perfect drive for small money. After updating FW to 1.08 it comes to recognize media made in Russia(!!!) - Mirex DVD-R 4x(www.mirex.ru). I've also try to rec on chipest Gigastorage media DVD-R 4x (printable, costs about 1,5$), but still at 2x. Less than 15 min per DVD - no more wishes. I'm glad. | Hi, I'm Spyros from Greece I've just got my new nec dvd-rw 1300 (firmware 1.06) and run into some problems Problem: I burned a traxdata (-) 1x disc using ''any dvd -dvd2one -copy to dvd''- software. I didn't get any error messages and the proccess finished succcessfully my pc's dvd- rom played the disc flawellessly, but my 'home' dvd player (philips 756) could not identify the disc (the same traxdata discs burned in a sony dru 500, were always played successfully in the philips 756. Up to now my 756 played every burned disc (- or +) that I used, without any problems). Then I burned a 'philips 4x dvd+r' disc with the same results: completed successfully -played on pc's dvd-rom drive - not played in philips 756. The curius thing is that the first traxdata disc, that I offered to a friend, played without problems in his 'home' panasonic player, and I 'm sure that the second disc will play in other players as well . | I got this DVD Burner for $132.00 from a local store (OEM Drive). I haven't had any problems with it. But then again, I almost immediately installed Herrie's hacked 1.08 firmware, which seems to help out. This is by far the cheapest drive I've seen around my area that does both + and - R/RW disks. I'm not sure why people are saying that this drive is so picky about media since I've tried a few different brands and haven't had problems. I've used Memorex +R, Verbatim +R, CrapUSA (Princo) -R, CrapUSA -RW, Verbatim +RWs. The only problem I had was on one of the CrapUSA (Princo) disks that burned at 2x speed and it was only rated at 1x speed. I've burned a bunch of other CrapUSA 1x disks at 2x without any problems or data verification errors. Yes, it only has a 2Meg buffer, but this hasn't been a problem at all for me. It seems that most programs such as Nero have an additional memory buffer anyway and I've done other stuff while burning (such as running office apps or browsing the internet) without issue. | Bought three of these NEC1300A (Firmware 1.08) drives running from Nero6. The drives if writing to all 3 at once work well at 2x but not at 4x two out of the three are a bit temperamental and I am using Orange top Ritek 4x Grade A made in Taiwan. If you see this chart from big pockets shows how bad this drive is to other manufacturers. http://www.bigpockets.co.uk/site/images/new/notes/compat.htm I hope they sort out this firmware fast…… Oh CDR’s have to be burned a lot slower too. | At last I have found the main problem with this DVD-RW. The shop re-placed the drive and I updated the firmware to 1.08, but the "Datawrite -R red" disc's still failed to work so the shop changed the disc's to "Mirror platium DVD -R, and hey-prestow the drive works 100%. My conclusion is that the drive is a little fussey with bulk disc's, but if you find or buy the right one's then you end up with a perfect DVD-RW at a good low price. My rateing for this drive is 8/10 as it has taken me two months to find the right disc's that work 100%, if this had not been the case then I would have given 10/10 for value etc. Comments posted by Ray from Other, October 24, 2003.
