Good and reliable writer. Although it didn't burnt highest speed of the discs with good quality. 8x discs (Plasmon1 C01 &DT-D03 004) burnt well with 6x and 16x (MCC 004) burnt well with 8x. With lower speed every disc was good. I used all the time newest firmware (now CS0T).

A lot of compatibility problems.
I have a DVD player and I cannot read any of the DVDs I wrote beside eProformance (8x both +R and -R) and Traxdata RW (4x +R). I didn't had this problem before and I view a lot of movies written with different DVD writers.
Bad writing on Commodore (I wrote 6 DVDs at speeds between 2.4x - 8x). One gives write failure.
Traxdata 8x +R is average because cannot be read after writing on LITE-ON with certain DVDs.
The last firmware update didn't help too mutch (tested with Commodore).

Cannot write all media. Have burned 15 DVD's of CMC MAG E01 type. All were bad. Bought Nec 3520. Only a few were OK because they were written on lower speeds

No doubt you should upgrade the firmware to ver. CS09!!

http://www.liteonit.com.tw/ODD/WebFW/SOHW-1653S/DR16CS09.zip.

With the original firmware (CS02) this drive does not support enough types of media. However, it is a good drive :-) Excellent and extremely fast CD-burner and reliable DVD- burner.
