Remove any disk from the player. Read the message NO Disk. Press repite 76884789. Open the tray and insert a different region disk. Press Play. I used on a region 4 player, which became free to all zone.

PostRegion code hack posted by eliashan, December 25 2004:

At long last! After dozens of tries, I found the correct remote control code to hack the player:

1. Turn on player with no disc in the tray. "No disk" appears on screen.
2. Press the "Repeat" key on the remote.
3. Press "57538" on the remote. A number should appear on screen, indicating your player's current region (e.g. "2").
4. Press the number for your required region (e.g. "1") or "9" for region-free/all-regions. The number will appear on screen, replacing the previous number (from step 3).
5. Press "Open/Close Tray" and leave the tray open for a few seconds.
6. Press "Power On/Off". The tray closes automatically and the player turns off. Next time you turn it on, it is region free (or whatever Region you selected in step 4).

You can now fully enjoy your player :)

I have not tried the hack listed here as my machine was able to run a Region 3 PAL DVD straight out of the box. Surprised the hell out of me. Did not test other regions as no test DVDs available. Purchased from Circuit City 1/2005.

HDCP FREE!! :)

DVD player powered on
no disk inserted
push "angle"
push "4"
push "3"
push "2"
push "7"
then push "angle" for a final time. I got no response or visual que that anything was done. I powered off the DVD player. Powered up my entire system including the DVD player

PostOther hack posted by metronet, February 15 2005:

it works very well yahoo~~~~

all i did was:

power up dvd
no disk inserted
push "angle" (no forbidden sign displayed)
push "4" (no number sign displayed)
push "3"
push "2"
push "7"
"HDCP Free" displayed on screen

PostRegion code hack posted by bugmenot, February 15 2005:

HDCP does work. At least what i see on screen display after entering command. i dont know how i can test it, as i dont have any projector, pc, or VTR/PVR that has DVI input.

Multi-Region Code 1 instructions must be for another player.
Play and Stop are on opposite sides of a circular button on the face of the player, so pressing them simultaneously is impossible.

Multi-Region Code 2 does not work. I tried 29334 for Region 1 player, and the moment you press 'Repeat' button, you get a 'forbidden' icon onscreen, which you dont get when you press 'Angle' button for HDCP hack.

The quest goes on...

Well!! this worked on the samsung DVD-HD747 which has an 841 main board, it removed region codes locks and also removed HDCP control, so now all DVD's work PLUS the DVI-D interface to the non HDCP compliant projects.
THANKS!!!!!!!

Just picked up a new DVD-HD841 at Costco (North American - Region 1 version). Tried the littlej hack (angle,4,3,2,7)and can confirm it removed the HDCP (screen displayed "HDCP Free!"). But it did not make mine region-free as it did for littlej.

For the region hack I will need to try the Cinemasound hack next, though I may have problems finding a compatible Aiwa remote.

PostRegion code hack posted by Jonnybignote, April 21 2005:

I had applied the HDCP Free hack although this didn't do anything for the region problem.

All credit to Cinemasound with the Aiwa remote hack. I bought this unit on April 20th 2005 for $99. I don't have an aiwa remote though, so I found the following solution using my Palm pilot (most of them should be able to do this).

Download the trial version of Omniremote from here

http://www.pacificneotek.com/download.htm

On the same screen also download the CCFCnvt.zip file(this is a CCF Converter utility to convert infrared remote profiles from Universal remote devices)

Download the Aiwa remote control file here.

http://www.remotecentral.com/ftp/ccf_templates/mini_systems/aiwa-mini-nsx999.zip

unzip it.

Using the previously downloaded CCF converter, open this unzipped file ('Read CCF file'). Using 'Ctrl' Select the 'main' and 'keypad' lines in the 'Pronto panels' window. Uncheck the 'include pronto hard keys' option and then press the -> (copy entire panel) button to copy to the Palm categories window) Click the 'generate PDB file' and save it as aiwa.

Install the omniremote program to your palm, together with the newly created AIWA.PDB file.
Open the 'Remote' program on your Palm device. Select the OmniRemote pro menu and click 'advanced'. Select 'databases'. Choose the database that you created which should be called 'aiwa'. Select 'Load'

You now have two panels to choose from with the three buttons you need to perform the region hack below (You'll have to switch between them). Stand close to the player as infrared range can be limited on Palm devices.

Turn on your DVD player;
Open the disc deck.

DON'T CLOSE!

Using the PALM Omniremote control,
1) Press Repeat (DVD player's display will light up.)
2) Press Program.
3) Press Clock - and the display will show the word "ADJUST".

At this time using the DVD remote control press 9.

DVD deck will close.

Thats all there is to it. Feel free to contact me for any further clarification ( I realise this is a lengthy essay...)

The region code free hack with AIWA remote controller do works for region 1 player.
But, I had hard time to find the remote controller.
Instead, I used Philips Universial remote controller (PHDVD5)

Before you begin

1. change your dvd output to composit.

If you use DVI, output will changed to composit and you can not see the display

2. From philips universal remote controller, program your remote controller with the code 789 (Audio, AIWA)

Not, you are ready to hack

1. open dvd tray

2. press "display/info" button then "Servo adjustment complete" message will be shown on the display

3. press "9", then all LCD segment on your DVD will light up

4. close the tray

That's it. Enjoy Region free DVD

* If you want see the region code, press "exit/return" button, then it will show you the region code

PostRegion code hack posted by H. Cho, April 22 2005:

There is a typo and error on my hack above. So, I posted again.

Before you begin

1. change your dvd display output to "s-video".

If you use DVI, output will changed to s-video during the process and you can not see the display in some case.

2. From philips universal remote controller, program your remote controller with the code 786 (Audio, AIWA)

Now, you are ready to hack

1. open dvd tray

2. press "display/info" button then "Servo adjustment complete" message will be shown on the display. Also "adjust" will be shown on lcd.

3. press "9", then all LCD segment on your DVD will light up

3. press "9" again then LCD on your dvd will show "open"

4. close the tray

That's it. Enjoy Region free DVD

Yee haw!

After about a year of waiting, finally!
Reg Free and HDCP free (altho i dont know what 2 do wit that).

Did the Reg Free with my old Palm V and Omniremote sw and the 841 included remote.
Did the HDCP with the 841 included remote.

Thanks to jonnybignote for his detailed and careful instructions. And thanks to everyone for all their hard work.

How does one even figure out that an aiwa remote would do anything? And then what to press? in what sequence?

I hope one day to 'first hack' a unit somewhere somehow and share the wealth.

I can confirm that the region code hack posted by H. Cho, on April 22 2005 works with the Philips PHDVD5 remote, ! I use the component video feed from the DVD player to the TV, so the first step doesn't seem to matter.

Here it is again:

1. Program your Philips PHDVD5 remote controller with code 786 (Audio, AIWA).
2. Open the DVD tray.
3. Press "display/info" button. "Servo adjustment complete" will appear on the TV, and "ADJUST" will appear on DVD player's lcd.
4. Press "9". All segments on your DVD player's lcd will light up.
5. press "9" again. The DVD player's lcd will now read "OPEN".

I confirm that US model 841 could be made region free, plays now PAL movies and supports DIVX. DVI digital output works as well towards NTSC plasma. Used the ready made firmware 745ver2for841.zip from the above mentioned yahoogroup site, unzipped it, put the two files an a CD and booted player (as described, had to wait several minutes until drive shut itself off). After the firmware upgrade, had to set the player back to NTSC, DVI to mode B, and resolution to 1090i using an RCA video cable to ananlog input of TV. After firmware upgrade, used the: repeat, 57538, 9, tray open, power off sequence to make it region free. Thanks for the hints!

PostRegion code hack posted by memory39, November 25 2005:

I just bought a refurbished Samsung HD841 online for about $65 after reading some of the hacks posted here. I had no trouble with the HDCM hack listed above but couldn't get any of the other non-AIWA-remote hacks to work to make the player region free.

Today, however, I found - by sheer coincidence - one remote in our local thrift store that turned out to be an AIWA RC-ZAS05. Bought it for 35 cents. I tried cinemasound's hack, but it didn't quite work the way I was expecting.

This is what happened for me:

1. Turned on the player.
2. Opened the tray and left it out of the player.
3. Tried pressing the PRGM button - nothing happened.
4. Tried pressing the Random/Repeat button - nothing happened.
5. Finally, not sure whether the remote was actually communicating with the player, tried the CLOCK button.
6. "Adjust" popped up on the LCD screen.
7. Pressed "9" on the AIWA remote -- nothing happened.
8. Pressed "9" on the Samsung HD841 remote -- nothing happened.
9. Closed the tray manually.
10. Turned off the player and then back on.
11. Inserted a Region 2 DVD.
12. Couldn't believe it -- DVD played fine!

Seems to me that the only button you really need for this hack is the CLOCK button on an AIWA remote. My LCD screen on the player never lit up (too bad, I was kind of looking forward to that) when I pressed either of the other two buttons mentioned in the hacks above. So, seems all you need is to turn on the player, (maybe) open the tray, press CLOCK on the AIWA remote, then "9" on the Samsung remote, then close the tray and turn off the player.

Thanks, everyone, I just got a really good region-free DVD player for about $65 and 35 cents! My wife, who is German and has a large collection of Region 2 DVDs, loves me even more now!

PostRegion code hack posted by soultanson, November 28 2005:

I just bought a Samsung DVD-HD841R from NY(Datavision) for about $60. The HDCM hack listed above works to me, but no one key's combination of two AIWA old remote controls (RC-T502 & RC-T511) did not bring any result for Region Free.
I intend to try the method of DJDRAGON.

PostRegion code hack posted by soultanson, December 02 2005:

OK at last I achieved to make my Samsung DVD-HD841 a REGION FREE DVD player, in a dramatically way after too many tries.
The DJDRAGON method failed because my DVD-HD841 didn’t recognize any of 5 CD-Rs with two files from Zoran site.
I found a third old AIWA remote control (RC-6AS09).
I tried the key’s combination above (REPEAT-PRGM-CLOCK) at any sequence, but nothing at all.
Then I started pressing many keys together at the same time and suddenly all LCD’s LEDs were lit on and TV screen turned black.
I continued pressing keys on AIWA remote control and suddenly “ADJUST” appeared in LCD.
Then I pressed “9” in Samsung DVD-HD841 and turned off the player.
When I powered ON, the DVD-HD841 was an ALL REGION free DVD-player!!!
The first DVD Region 2 movie I tried successfully was “Practical MAGIC”!
I was ready to believe that the only way is … magic!!! to hack this DVD player (I have hacked many Region 1 DVD players).

PostOther hack posted by Montana, December 28 2005:

I am in the UK(Region 2) and have just got myself the Samsung DVD-HD950 from Richer Sounds.
The multi-region hack worked first time, by the usual "repeat", "57538", then "9" for all regions, "Open Tray", wait 5 seconds, then "power off".
The problem that I had was that I couldn't seem to get the HDCP hack to work,I have eventually got the solution from elsewhere.I thought this should be the place to place the complete solution, as it's the place people will come to to look for it.

Turn the player "On"(tray closed) - "No Disc" in top left hand corner of your TV

Press the "Angle" button - Prohibited sign in top right hand corner of your TV

Press "4" , "3" , "2" , "7"

Press the "Angle" button - Prohibited sign in top right hand corner of your TV

The hack has worked , BUT, and this is where I went wrong, you can't adjust the output resolution via the menu screen(this is the bit that drove me insane).
The way to adjust the resolution is simple, all you have to do is press the "HDMI SEL." key, and the resolutions come up on your TV screen.
There is one BIG thing that you CANNOT do though -

YOU CAN'T USE THE HDCP HACK WITH THE "COMPONENT I" SELECTION IN THE DISPLAY SETTINGS.IT CAN ONLY BE USED WITH THE COMPONENT P / HDMI DISPALY SETTING.

If you have any questions, list them below.

Andy

The HD745 Firmware Hack gives your Samsung HD841 DivX playback, MP3 DVD and DHCP Free (1080i via Component Input).

The Remote Hack makes your DVD player Region Free.

Section 1:
Go to (and join) - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ZoranDVD > Files (Samsung HD841 Firmware)

Read - DivX_update_manual.pdf (How to create firmware update CD)
Download Firmware - 745ver2for841.zip
Download and read - 745to841HowTo.zip (Firmware modification instructions)

Make your Firmware Update Disc and follow the update instructions.

Section 2:
After the update your DVD paler will default to PAL video. To change it back to NTSC do the following:

Start from power off and no disc.
1. Power on and give it a few seconds to power up
2. Press Menu. The selected menu is not correct, so...
3. Up Arrow ONCE puts you at setup.
4. Right Arrow goes into setup.
5. Down Arrow TWICE to highlight Display.
6. Right Arrow to select Display settings.
7. Down Arrow FOUR (4) times to get to PAL/NTSC.
8. Right Arrow changes from PAL to NTSC (and pushing again changes back to PAL).

Section 3:
If you’re *not* using the HDMI/DVI output skip this section.

DO THIS WITH THE TRAY EMPTY (no disc).

The HD745 Firmware update does not default to P-SCAN&DVI output. To put it back into P-SCAN&DVI press the VIDEO SEL button on your remote, slowly (about every 10/15 seconds), until your picture comes back. Make sure you to this slowly because once you land on the right selection it will take your display a few seconds to detect the output from your DVD player and display it on the screen.

Section 4:
After the update your DVD player will default to region 2.

To make your DVD player Region Free (Region 9, ALL REGIONS) do the following (this only works after the HD745 Firmware update):

1. Turn on player with no disc in the tray. "No disk" appears on
screen.
2. Press the "Repeat" key on the remote.
3. Press "57538" on the remote. A number should appear on screen,
indicating your player's current region (e.g. "2").
4. Press the number for your required region (e.g. "1") or "9" for
region-free/all-regions. The number will appear on screen, replacing
the previous number (from step 3).
5. Press "Open/Close Tray" and leave the tray open for a few
seconds.
6. Press "Power On/Off". The tray closes automatically and the
player turns off. Next time you turn it on, it is region free (or
whatever Region you selected in step 4).
Now go through your Video and Audio setup options in the Menu and you're done.
- Enjoy

My unit is updated with the latest firmware (I'm not using the alternate firmware that I see mentioned in some of the hacks; I used the latest firmware provided directly by Samsung and specified for the DVD-HD841), and did both the DHCP hack and the Aiwa remote region free hack.

While it is true that the DHCP hack allows you to get an upscaled (720p, 768x1024, and 1080i) picture from the component input, I recommend AGAINST doing this because any format other than 480p from the component input distorts the picture; it cuts off part of the image on the right, and stretches & distorts a bit of the image on the left. I am basing this on what I observed from the DVE overscan display pattern.

The hack that removes HDCP that's been posted several times [I.e., 1. Turn your television ON
2. Turn the DVD Player ON (You should see the Samsung screen saver appear on the TV) 3. Ensure the DVD tray is EMPTY and CLOSED 4. Wait for the message 'NO DISC' to appear 5. Use the remote control supplied with the player to perform the following functions: 6. Press the ANGLE button 7. Press the numbers 4, 3, 2, 7 (You should see the message 'HDCP Free' appear in the upper left hand corner of your television screen) 8. Press the OPEN/CLOSE button to open the disc tray], not only removes HDCP but also makes the HD-841 region free.

My DVD player is a Samsung DVD-HD841 purchased in 2005 for Region 1 in the USA. I don't know about later versions of this player, but this hack did work for me and my player is now region free.

Thanks.
