This tool is a great GUI for a variety of command line programs. I use it as a DVD to DVD converter mostly. One nice thing is that if you choose not to have any of the created files deleted, the files can be used to work on another project. Also, there is a recover command to rerun a process that has been previously started. The last project I did was to take an XVID PAL High quality AVI and I transcoded it using Sonic MyDVD 5.0. I created a PAL DVD folder. I ripped the DVD with DVD2SVCD. When the TMPEGenc encoding started, I aborted the encoding and DVD2SVCD created a 20 second DVD in PAL format. I started TMPEGenc manually and my AVIsynth project file created by DVD2SVCD was still active in TMPEGenc. I went into the settings screen of TMPEGenc and set it to reencode the video into an NTSC compliant DVD video. When it was finished, I substituted the video file that I created with 20 second video that DVD2SVCD created. I started the recover utility in DVD2SVCD and chose the Muxing/cutting command and DVD2SVCD created a video_TS folder with my movie. I then used IFOedit to edit the IFO file to change it from PAL to NTSC format. The nice thing about these processes is by using DVD2SVCD, you can perform them overnite and as long as you save all the created files and the project recover file, you can pick up where you left off and continue. GREAT PACKAGE!!! Virtual Dub is great, but it creates huge files and unless you have a huge hard drive, reencoding a movie with TMPEGenc saves plenty of hard drive space. |
