Not a fan of this recent update. The default layout is minimalist to say the least and I don't see any option to change it unlike in previous builds. Also they added a nag screen that pops up on closing the app to upgrade to the premium version. I mean it's free but what the hell?!

Review by kayfam on Mar 22, 2023 Version: BurnAware 16.4 Free OS: Windows 11 64-bit Ease of use: 5/10 Functionality: 5/10 Value for money: 5/10 Overall: 5/10

For aka Lyn or those who do not know how to use this software should look at the manual on line. Here is the link
https://www.burnaware.com/online-manual.html
Have used this for years and never an issue with rootkits or malware.

Review by Backpain on Aug 10, 2022 Version: 15.7 OS: Windows 10 64-bit Ease of use: 10/10 Functionality: 10/10 Value for money: 10/10 Overall: 10/10

The instructions are not helpful for general public use.
It does not really explain how to copy a DVD onto a USB stic or even onto another DVD.
It does not make clear what is the source and what is the destination.
Just simple instructions like from "A" to "B" would be good.
After over an hour of trying I gave up, having stupidly paid for the Pro version.
The risk of overwriting the source DVD is high.

horrible PROGRAM. DOESNT WORK. Has errors and says insufficient space when I have about 79 min , and there's 80 min of space. Why cant you fix this??? Also why does it take so long to Buffer? I can never get past the buffering stage. with a CD.....tried several times. it is so frustrating. Buffering takes over an hour and still nothing. Completely ridiculous. Not worth my time. Old versions of Burnaware worked much easier and better. Why change a good thing and make it worse>? Burnaware not compatible with newer versions of windows. google chrome, etc. ( win 10/11) Win 10/11 is horrible as well.

Wow, rootkits? Just what I need. Every time I boot, I get 4 BurnAware installers pop up. I've gone through my registry and did everything I could get rid of all traces. I guess I will have to reinstall my operating system when it gets bad enough. I'm back with Nero. Fuck this.

Beware BurnAware is Malware !

All the original *.exe installers are digitally signed with a valid certificate !
however after installation, the all available *.exe's are not anymore signed with a valid certificate !

more the installer will try to add into your operating system/certificate store some certificates
in order to make the invalid *.exe's look after valid !

and the files are using a special delphy "bobsoft" wrapper to bypass the detection and masquerade as valid !

the latest version of burnaware valid signed all *.exe's after installation is v13.2 !

Please do not download this program unless you know for sure that it does not contain a terrible backdoor rootkit..Normal virus scans will come up clean..Its what happens afterwords that is devastating..Windows sees this as a normal file download and then protects the rootkit as it sees them as normal files..Listen people you do not want this..I have contacted the author of Burnaware and he asked me why I downloaded his program from videohelp and not from his websight..I asked him then why is it there to begin with..I have been downloading from videohelp.com since it first appeared on the internet without any issues..He refuses to believe a nasty rootkit such as this is attached to his program..Its not necessarilly in his program..Its in the way it installs,,and UPON finish..Again the problem exists that as soon as it connects back to his websight after install the rootkit is placed into your computer..I have narrowed this down and battled this in all my computers and laptops for months and it is Not from the program itself..Take your chances if you must but as for me I will never ever install this again!!

I have been using BurnAware since the earliest versions years and years ago always upgrading to a new free version when it became available..I think maybe about 3 or 4 upgrades ago a very nasty backdoor rootkit has gotten into all my desktops and laptops and after many months I finally figured where it comes from..Anyone that has installed this program knows upon completion it connects to the authors websight,,and you cannot stop it from doing so,,where he thanks you for downloading and installing BurnAware..I am pretty sure the author does not know that some lowlife for lack of a better word has quietly attached this horrid backdoor virus that (windows sees as normal files and then protects them)..Anyone that battles viruses as I have knows what rootkits are all about they are brutally effeciant and will slowly and quietly destroy your O.S..Thankfully after months spent on this I have figured this out and purged it from all of my computers..Sadly though I can never trust or use this program again..

For adware free version http://www.burnaware.com/download.html and at bottom of page look for "Also you can download free version without optional offers". The words "free version" is the link

I had a previous version before it had adware and found it very good My score is for the old version as i have not used this, just wanted to say where ad free one is

My favorite burning software for quite some time; comparing it to the old dinosaur that has become Nero, makes you wonder why people are throwing their money on such a resource eating software. For every day use, I don't think you should look any further: it burns your ISO files (or saves files as ISO), mp3 discs, audio CDs, DVD discs, Blu-rays/AVCHD, bootable ISO, all with an easy to use and intuitive interface. And even better - it's free.
Could it get better? I suppose so, my only improvement wish would be a x64 version.
At the time of my review, the VideoHelp admins, haven't noticed (and advertised) that from version 9.2, BurnAware is offering to install Safe Finder (which will change your home page, new tab and search engine), but this can be declined by choosing from Basic to Advanced install, and unselecting the option. It's the usual adware software (already got used to it), but this doesn't diminish BurnAware's quality.

A lot of harsh and highly questionable criticism around. Using it for years now, mainly burning DVDs.
Started using it when I discovered it could burn a fisc which cdburnerXP couldnt ("not enough space".
Highly recommended, thanks for this great little tool.

Trying to burn an audio CD it says there's insufficient room on a 80min CD, despite the total compilation time showing as 79m15s. Throws up errors and won't let me add some mp3s.

Using WMP instead now which doesn't have either of these problems and lets me toggle normalise and gaps between tracks.

@mail2tom
Like many other 'freeware' some additional software offerings are included.
Installation of it IS avoidable, though.
Note that the 'AVG' dialogue offers a couple of radio buttons in the lower half.
But maybe you've missed another button right above the AVG-ad, almost at the top of the dialogue. Click this to prevent installation of AVG.

I have no problems with the program functionality. Works great for a free program. However, no matter which option I've chosen to opt-out of the AVG add-on it still gets installed.

To the DOPE in the previous post,,you are clueless.I have been burning discs since 1995 and probably spent more time and money on this stuff then you spent in your entire little life..I post what I see in the many computers that I have burnaware installed ..The author of this application changes it constantly and that is fine IF it works from version to version..BUT it dosent..His next update may ruin it..And he is very pompous and aloof about it,,We have exchanged quite a few emails about Burnaware over the years..AS for Burnaware 6.0,,it seems to be working fine in all of my win7 and xp desktops and laptops..Thats why I gave it high scores this time..I dont post in here to play around or flame and if you dont like it then too bad...

I would sincerely hope that the previous poster continues to use his other CD/DVD burning app and stay clear from testing this. It'll save him a lot of anxiety, and the rest of us any further exposure to his poorly substantiated flames.

For me BurnAware Free works perfectly. No probs whatsoever. Straight A's.
I burnt lots of good CD's and DVD's.

Once again I have to post about Burnaware..I wrote the author through technical support and all he wrote back to me was that I wrote a threatning letter..All I said to him was that I have never seen a piece of software get worse with each update..BURNAWARE 5.5 is a MESS,,im not even going to start to tell you whats wrong with it but all you have to do is download it and find out for yourself..I really hope its works fine for you,,if not just trash it as I did in all my desktops and notebooks..Im back to using CDburnerXP and now am able to burn the same compilations quickly and efficently..Its a shame,,Burnaware has always been a reliable workhorse for me and a staple in all my win 7 and xp machines and to me its a fine piece of burning software gone bad...:(

The author of Burnaware has totally fixed the burn speed issue in 4.6 it is why I changed my scores for this program. He added the option to (detect actual burn speed) or use predefined burn speeds..Burnaware has been around for years and now its back to being my burn program of choice once again..CDburnerXP is also another fine free burn program in my opinion...;)~

Review by RappinRod on Feb 12, 2012 Version: 4.6 OS: WinXP Ease of use: 10/10 Functionality: 10/10 Value for money: 10/10 Overall: 10/10

I have to follow up my last post because the author added more predefined burn speeds of which I greatly appreciated and I did write him and thank him for it BEFORE I tested it.But he must take me for some kind of fool as the new predefined burn speeds do nuthing if you try to use them..I wish he would have left the burn options alone they always worked fine in versions prior to 4.2,,the author of Burnaware has taken the best burn program and turned it into one of the worst pieces of garbage Ive seen in the last 17 years of burning discs..As I said before I installed the newest version of CDBurnerXp and everything burns fine again...;)~

Review by RappinRod on Jan 27, 2012 Version: 4.5 OS: WinXP Ease of use: 10/10 Functionality: 1/10 Value for money: 10/10 Overall: 1/10

The author of this program killed Burnaware by incorporating predefined burnspeeds..For years Burnaware would read the blank disks then give you a choice of what speed you want to burn at according to the disc brand you inserted.Predefined speeds would be ok except for the fact that the author gives you a Max setting but after that the only other choices you have are very slow burn speeds and they are totaly unacceptable to me.NO OTHER BURN PROGRAM INCORPORATES PREDEFINED BURN SPEEDS that I know of..I have contacted the author and he is a very nice person and he told me he was having issues with other peoples burners not reading blank discs correctly so he just made predefined speeds.I have been using this program for years in all of my computers without this kind of issue. And from what he was telling me hes not changeing it back so I moved on to CDburnerXP and all is well and I can choose my burn speeds...;)~

It's a no brainer.
For a free program, they didn't pull any functionality . Of course your options for Video DVD are limited in the sense that you can't arrange for a custom menu and interface. No custom backdrop etc.

But if you just want to burn data, Divx, Mp3's, make copies or image files, this is a better program than Nero which really scums up your system with useless junk.
For everything else, this sight is equipped with plenty of great programs, many of which are free.

I guess the previous commenter would rate Adobe Reader a one also, since you have to uncheck a box to not install Google Toolbar!

The is the easiest burning program that can be used by anyone - the interface is the absolute cleanest and most intuitive. No it is not the most powerful, that is for ImgBurn. I have installed BurnAware on 9 computers for friends and relatives, and they all are mose grateful for such an easy program to use.

I use it to burn my music mp3/CD's, ISO's, and data discs. The problen burning music CD's has apparently been fixed. I highly recommend it.

Burnaware free is now scumware.
Beware of the installer for ask tookbar, do NOT check any of the 3 boxes.
v2.1 is the last clean version.

This program is great except for one major hiccup

Burning mp3s to audio CDs results in noiseless gaps after the song has been played. A work around is to convert the mp3s to .wav then burn them. This is a simple step that the software should be capable of doing without interaction from the user.

I think that the free version of CDBurneXP is a better program at the $0.00 price point.

Review by dvdragon on May 27, 2008 Version: 1.3.1 OS: WinXP Ease of use: 8/10 Functionality: 7/10 Value for money: 7/10 Overall: 6/10

Easy program to use. The only glitch I find is that when I create an audio CD using MP3 files, there is anywhere from 2 to 6 minutes of dead air at the end of each song. The fix is, as was previously posted, to convert to a different file type such as WAV.

To the people who have probs making audio cd's, just convert your mp3's, wma's etc into cd compliant wav files and bingo, no probs.

Works great! Uses some .net and VB so sue need at least win2k with support packs... easy and simple to use...

now only if it would ad context menu options to "send to" > dvd image > Burnware ;)

but hey its free and does what is supposed to.

as for the 1st poster, win98? are you kidding ? do they allow computers that old on the internet anymore ? Seriously though... your "surprised" a modern app will not work on win98?

Kind of wondered "what for" when I first came across this app, as there are already plenty of freeware burning programs out there. But this thing has turned into a pretty handy tool to have around, and the author seems to strive on continuous improvement, so two thumbs up from me! I'd still like to be able to manually re-size the main window to suit my needs, but all in all, good stuff!
