Media Player Classic Qute Theater (mpc-qt) aims to reproduce most of the interface and functionality of mpc-hc while using libmpv to play video instead of DirectShow. Nearly everything that MPC-HC does. For the most part, unwritten portions relate to setting options, streaming from devices, and storing favorites.

v25.07

What's Changed
Key highlights:

A video preview is shown on the seek bar.
The window can be moved by dragging the bottom section.
Bigger icons and updated subtitles icon.
The shuffle feature shuffles the entire list (and preserve its original order) and the playlist keeps the current item at the center, so you'll always know what's playing next.
The new music mode makes it possible to keep the MPC-QT small to play music.
The keys editor is easier to use thanks to a search field and a better workflow.
Subtitles additions for deaf or hard-of-hearing (SDH) like [whispers] can be automatically hidden (in "Subtitles > Misc").
You can force MPC-QT to use English instead of an incomplete translation.
The AppImage is made with Ubuntu 22.04, but you're encouraged to use the Flathub Flatpak version instead.

All features

Improvements over mpc-hc
Multiple playlists: When you're watching shows on your backlog, load every show into separate playlists and still keep track of the last played file for each playlist. Finally you can eliminate the need to keep track of your progress in a spreadsheet, all while never leaving the comfort of your favorite media player.

Quick queuing: Out-of-order playback in the same style of xmms/qmmp. Got some compilation albums in a playlist, but want to hear only some rock tracks for a while? Now you can, without obliterating your playlist.

Playlist searching: Multi-threaded playlist searching, in the same style as other media players. Find the tracks you want, when you want them.

Screenshot templates: Take screenshots with a custom, sleek and stylized filename. Only include the information that you want.

Looped playback: Selectively show part of video/music tracks. Amazing, isn't it?

Custom metadata: Display custom metadata in the playlist window. Want to show the artist as well as the title, down to even the encoder used? Nothing is stopping you.

Upcoming features
Native filter-chain support: Comprehensive integration of mpv/ffmpeg's filter interface/library, right inside your media player.

Encoding support like VirtualDub: Churn out memes faster. No need to open a video editor when your media player can do your job for you.

Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancements: In-app custom styling support.

I am a long time user of MPC-HC and MPC-BE. I tried MPC-QT (portable) and the settings I changed do not remember between loads. Is there a forum for MPC-QT where one can search to maybe find a work around?

Regarding the last users comment of “please ignore transporterfan comment and ratings, he was a windows user”, does that mean MPC-QT is not intended for Windows when it says it is for Windows and Linux?

This (version) won't work in Vista. Throws a launch error 'The procedure entry point BCryptDeriveKeyPBKDF2 could not be located in the dynamic link library bcrypt.dll.' Presumably it's an encrypted volume that can't be unpacked (libarchive?).
