For the firmware just go to: http:///www.liteonit.com/ODD/English/e_downloads/e_firmware_dvd%20rw.asp

Hope this helps !?

I have never had any problem being able to "burn at all" or "at any speed". Made a pile of back-ups at 8x. I originally had software compatability issues with my back up program (One Click DVD Copy) but this was easy to resolve. The latest updated firmware (07) works fine. I have made a few coasters using AVB 8x DVD-R (TYG-02) media. Switched to Verbatim 8x DVD+R (MCC-003) with great results, and they are more compatable with my home DVD player too. This drive is much quieter and burns faster than my other Liteon combo drive. The only real problem that I have encountered with the drive itself is its poor ability to rip scratched DVDs that otherwise play fine on my home DVD player. But then again what do you expect for less than $60!

This is the first DVD writer I've encountered that just doesn't burn anything. It plays DVD's and I can get info from CD's but it won't burn them.

It fails even doing speed tests, very very disappointed with this product. I took it back to the store and swapped the drive thinking it's faulty and the second one does exactly the same thing.

The clerk said you needed to select the right medium type ie -R, CD. But it doesn't give you any options other than DVDRW or CDRW. My assumption based on the user manual this is not a double layer writer, which is the feature you need for this to work.

Bye bye Lite-On!

Hello Sony or Pioneer I've had great success with these drives.

BTW I'm using Digitrex DVD-R and TDK CD's and I've had no problems with all the mediums to date. That's using the Sony and the Pioneer. I've burn't heaps

Oh well, looked good on the box

Installed this junk in place of a Sony DRU-510A, because the Sony has some write-problems. It did not work at all on my W2K system, although it was detected OK. Could not read or write anything. Replacement unit from the seller was exactly the same. I then installed it on a XP (SP1) pc, where it played exactly 1 audio cd, and would then read nothing more. I shall never buy LiteOn again.

Using lates (05) FW and burning HP (Ricoh) 2.4x +RW and new Ridata 8x G05

Lots of errors and playable DVD skips. Also have NEC 3500 and all burns are fine from that drive on the same media.

Not impressed . . .

I just got the drive and able to burn at 16x with verbatim 16x DVD+R media. It takes about 6 minutes 30 seconds to burn a full DVD. So far no coasters and my movies look excellent. I capture my movies using PVR-250, trasnferring from VCR. I am still using the current firmware JS02 that came with the drive. I am also able to play my DVD's on my portable Inital DVD player, and on my TV using CyberHome DVD player.

A new firmware JS05 from codeguys is available for download. http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares.html#SOHW-1673S.
There is also some discussion about this firmware at:
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=131328&highlight=1673s

I upgraded my drive, but have'nt yet see any change.

And I thought it was just me, thanks for the post, any fixes??? Other than that of waiting for LiteOn to admit the issue(s).............

I cannot burn at 8X or 16X. I have 3 types of +R 8X media Memorex CMC MAG-E01-00
RITEK-R03-02
Verbatim MCC-003-00
These all burn at 1.4X
I also have 16X Verbatim MCC-004-00 that only burn at 1X
I may have to return this drive if Liteon cannot make firmware to support burning of popular media brands.
