A friend bought these and told me they were TYG02. At $20 for two 50 spindles I thought that was a bargain, but still within reason; I'd just got a 100 spindle of TYG02 from Canada Computers for $28. I should have looked closer before buying, TYG02:
- are only made in Japan
- have a GGxxxxxx or TG batch code at the outer edge of the hub.

The Dataware were made in China, had no batch code and have a strong peach smell, another characteristic of TYG02. This is obviously meant to fool buyers. THOSE DISCS ARE FAKE TYG02 and they're complete crap. I burned tests at 4x on an NEC3500, Pioneer112, Plextor712 and 716. Only the 712 gave a decent burn (numbers were over double real TYG02), the 716 didn't do as good a job (it had to resort to autostrategy). The other burners gave so many errors, I was unable to finish the scans.

The dye that they are using decays over time, from a few months to only a few days. I just wrote a few that passed data verification and then a manual test of all the files on the disk, before I deleted the originals. The next day they worked just fine, but on day three CRC errors for ALL files. These are horribly defective and the next time I am in Future Shop I am going to demand a recall. Do not trust these things.

TYG02 code caused PX-716A burner to attempt burning the disc at 16X. Burner refused and tried 12X. Eventually dropped to 6X near the end. The burn was of poor quality, with PIF > 4 in numerous places and PIE > 280.

At 8X burn, the disc was borderline.

At both 8X and 16X, the video disc created would not play in a JVC set-top DVD player. After half-way through the disc, pixellation occurred and the player locked up (corresponding roughly with peaks in PIF and PIE).

At 4X burn, no obvious signs of trouble with respect to PIE/PIF.

Picked these up quite cheaply for throwaway TV recordings. NEVER AGAIN. Not only were they unreliable and would error out in my Pioneer recorder, every last one of them had CRC errors when burned with my PC burner.(also Pioneer)

I have purchased this Dataware 2x100 DVD-R spindle from Future Shop for $39.99 just for a try because I noticed from this site that plenty of brandname discs have the same TYG02 mark as Dataware does (means from the same manufacturer). It turns out to be a very pleasant surprise that so far I burnt 70 of them and NOT one single failure. I burn with my Dell laptop and Toshiba DR2 DVD recorder and plays also with a Hitachi player. At 20 cents each, it is of incredible value with very obvious quality. The price is very misleading becasue it leads us to believe that it is something cheapie.

Not recommend to burn at 8x using DW1640 BS0B Qsuite testing, rec'd at 4x. Significant PIF spiral beyond 4G (peak 23) but stable jitter and no read issues. Definitely not real TY media, PIE rate is far too high. Osidisk and Optodisc media with this code burns with much better quality.
