This is not a hack or anything but a new insight.
I recently purchased a Philips 3900SA/69 [don't know what the 69 stands for] HTS. The quality is excellent for the price, good VFM. My set is a CBU from China and I stay in India. I was searching for a hack and came up with this...

VERSION : 05.00.01.08
SET VER : 00.00.00.01
8032 : 05.00.01.08
SERVO : 03.15.00.00
RISC : 05.00.01.08
DSP : 03.09.00.69
REGION CODE : 0

Also,
V34 3900-69 3 13
03150000 REG:0

I guess the region code being zero is most noteworthy. I haven't upgraded the firmware as yet.

3. Full width file browser and now you can see extensions of the files.
4. Extended area for subtitles.
5.- Press & Hold OK (or PLAY) button on remote to have GOTO functionality (1x SELECT chapter/file?, 2x GOTO time).
- Press & Hold >>| button for Fast Forward.
- Press & Hold |<< button for Fast Rewind.
- Press & Hold SOUND button for FREQ 1, 2, 3, 4 ???
- Press ZOOM button on remote to have GOTO functionality. in LX3900-3950
6. Added support for the following Code Pages: 1250, 1251, 1252, 1253, 1255. Backgrounds by Laza.

Subtitles characteristics in the latest firmware:
The Standard Big Font can display at least 46 characters/line and the size is very similar to movie subtitles of TV Stations. Maximum 2 lines and/or 88 characters. Best for 4:3 TV
The small font can display at least 48 characters/line and the size is a little smaller. Maximum 2 lines and/or 88 characters. Best for 16:9 TV.

Download the firmware for your language to see the subtitles and the menu in your language displaying correct !
