Turn on unit
make sure the "no disc" message is displayed
press "16719" using the number keys on the remote. You'll see the region number on the screen.
press the "OK" button until the region number is set to 0, then press the "Play" button to exit

I tried the above hack and while it was close, it didn't work exactly the same way.
Turn on the unit.
Push "Info" on the remote.
Key in 16719 on the remote number keys.
Push "OK" until "0" is shown.
Push "Play" to exit.
So this varies from the first hack in that you do not have to eject the tray and also you do not push "Menu" but "Info" instead on the remote.
My unit is manufactured July 2005 so perhaps that is why there is a difference?

Mine just like the two hacks mentioned above, but in this order:
1. Turn on the player.
2. Press the "Eject" button on the remote.
3. Press the "Info" button on the remote.
4. Press 1, 6, 7, 1, 9 on the number pad on the remote.
5. Press "OK" on the remote and set the region to 0.
6. Press "Play" on the remote.
So I had to press both eject and info on the remote. I bought this player in November.
