DL'd the latest version (v1.6.2) and installed per the directions. RTFM! Without the required supplemental programs installed, Forty-Two will not work and will simply error out.
I never used Forty-Two in Jaguar (10.2.x) but just tried this latest version in Panther (10.3.1). Prepare to wait a while for the results. It took a little over 5 1/2 hours to rip a 1.75 hour DVD. When it was finished, the folder in which the finished mpegs should reside was empty. The intermediate ".avi" files was also gone. I've contacted the author about this.
Luckily, the two separate streams (audio and video) were still there and, once multiplexed (using the excellent MPEG2 Works from Serbian), were perfectly in sync and the quality was superb. The mux'ing process is pretty short so it's not too much of an inconvenience. Hopefully, Forty-Two's author will resolve the "disappearing files" issue. I don't know if this is something that was introduced with v1.6.2 or if it's due to my running under Panther.
Why would I use Forty-Two instead of MPEG2 Works? When I have DVDs with subtitles which MPEG2 Works does not support (yet).
