SMPlayer is a free media player for Windows and Linux with built-in codecs that can play virtually all video and audio formats. It doesn't need any external codecs. Just install SMPlayer and you'll be able to play all formats without the hassle to find and install codec packs. One of the most interesting features of SMPlayer: it remembers the settings of all files you play. No Mplayer engine anymore, only mpv.

Just as a follow up on my earlier post: I have been using SMPlayer for a couple of months now and honestly it hasn't failed once.
MPC-HC, VLC, and others, they crashed regularly, e.g. just by skipping forward or backward.
("Hang"->Taskmanager: Kill process)
So far not with SMPlayer - it is an outstanding player, well, at least, that is -my- opinion :-)
