New in Avid Media Composer 2025.6: Faster, Smarter, More Powerful
The newest release of Avid Media Composer 2025.6 is packed with exciting new features to help you work faster, smarter, with more creative flexibility than ever before.
Whether you're diving into AI-powered transcript tools, exchanging sequences between editing platforms, or seamlessly switching from proxy to high-resolution media, Media Composer 2025.6 puts you in control of your editorial workflow. Let’s explore what’s new!
Ultra-fast proxy workflow
Working with HD, 2K, UHD, or RAW? The new dual-resolution linking lets a single clip reference both high-res and proxy media for instant switching between formats. Create lightweight proxy media from the clips in the bin or sequences and right click on the play button to play media with the high-resolution media or proxy preferred, at any time.
Proxy Pref
This new proxy workflow is available for Media Composer Ultimate and Enterprise users, whether you're working on-prem or remotely with Avid NEXIS. It streamlines your entire proxy process, ideal for bandwidth-sensitive environments.
Smarter, AI-powered Transcript Tool
The Transcript Tool, AI powered by PhraseFind, has become essential for editors navigating hours of footage and cutting directly from the generated transcripts. In version 2025.6, it’s easier and more intuitive than ever to manage transcripts:
Faster access to transcript settings right from the Bin menu
Start/Stop indexing directly from the Transcript Tool Fast Menu
Use Shift + arrow keys to make precise word-by-word selections
Improved copy/paste for smooth sharing across applications
Delete individual transcripts without clearing an entire project
A single transcript index for all languages—no more managing multiple files
2 Include_Exclude transcription
Shift Key Transcript
4 Delete single transcript
Whether you’re pulling quotes, crafting captions, or wanting to assemble spoken content faster, the new Transcript Tool gives you unmatched speed and clarity, with more time to focus on story and structure.
MediaCentral transcription interop
If you're working with MediaCentral, transcripts created upstream are now imported directly into Media Composer when you bring in media. No extra steps needed—transcription data comes with the clip and is stored in your local transcript database.
“Use Marks” in Create SubCap
Want to generate subtitles for just part of your timeline? With the new “Use Marks” option in the Create SubCap tool, you can create captions for just a selected region, ideal for whispering dialogue, updated scenes, or revised subtitles without affecting the rest of your sequence.

Avid Titler+ gets a boost
Working with titles? Avid Titler+ improvements now make it easier to manage and find your title segments:
Display title clip text in the timeline with a single click
Quickly locate titles using the Find Window or Timeline Search Bar
Export titles as part of an EDL, complete with timecode and unique names
These updates simplify version tracking and make collaborating in post production smoother.

AutoSequence and Spot to Timecode use Camera column
Syncing dailies just got easier. The updated AutoSequence and Spot to Timecode tools now reference the Camera column in your bin to keep audio and video in sync, even when clips share overlapping timecode.
AutoSequence_Spot2Timecode
This enhancement is a time saver for assistants and editors who regularly build sync maps or prepare media for dailies workflows.
OpenTimelineIO import support
Previously, you could export OTIO files to share timeline data with other applications. Now, in 2025.6, you can import OTIO files too.
OTIO support improves interoperability between Media Composer and other creative tools used by Pixar, Netflix, Disney, and more. You can preserve your timeline structure, cuts, and transitions, making collaboration easier than ever.
AVC Long GOP codec quality options
Working with AVC Long GOP media? You now have three encoding options: Fastest, Balanced, and Best. Choose the setting that best fits your project’s performance and output needs, customizable via Media Creation or Export settings.

HDR Media in Dynamic Relink

Bonus: Hear from the pros
If you're passionate about editing, you’ll want to check out Matt Feury’s The Rough Cut podcast, where editors behind today’s biggest films and series—like Severance, Wicked, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, and Daredevil: Born Again—talk about their craft and how they use Media Composer.
