I've bought a Iomega Dual DVD +-RW and i've gotta say that it's very good.
The first thing i did after i installed it on my computer was flash it with the new firmare, no problems so far.
Someone said that there was problems with it burning DVD-r's 1x, but i didn't have that problem at all (maybe cause of the new firmware).
I'm very happy with it thus far :)

I have since got the firmware update and it now records on to Princo.
This is my second comment and i now rate it better than before.
I got the firmware by clicking through Mr Baptistas' help.
I have only done one but i am happier.

I just want to thanks to you all. I had bought a IOMEGA DUAL DVD Writer and it wasn't working fine with DVD-R. I had found in here somo useful stuff to repair it, as the update for the firmware. One more time, thanks for you all.

Best regards from Portugal,

Miguel Semedo

Hi .

I bought this recorder here in Portugal and had many problems with lots of media. Seems like the recorder does not record at 1x. Presently I am using Verbatim DVD-R 2x with no problems.

Initially Windows XP said it was a CD-Rom Drive (but it was recognized by the PC BIOS as IOMEGA DVDRW4216IND-A), so I installed the Iomega authoring software, and voilá: DVD-R Drive.

Can we wonder if all of us have the same firmware version?? Mine is 1.20, can you see what is yours (per example, with DVD Info Pro)????

It went along ok with Verbatim DVD-R 2x / 4x, and DVD-RW; Moore DVD-RW; and I had problems with Sony, Prime Disc, SKY, Sentinel, because they were 1x media, or because, the software I used was not the best choice (Nero 6 didn’t work very well). I think it’s what Irulat said: it doesn’t record at 1x.

At last I was successful with Clone DVD and with CopyToDVD.

However I contacted Iomega to find out if there were any firmware updates, and they told me that no update is available. So I ask Con Bourlioufas: how did you have that firmware update??? Can you send me the file??? I’m still in the warranty, so no Herrie firmware for me…

Thanks!!!

Best Regards.

No problem or bug's...best quality with a low cost...i try it with Sony, TDK, Philips media...

This is a great drive for DVDs and CDs but a disaster when it comes to CD-RWs. Top speed recording (4x) is obtained by enabling DMA in Windows. DVD recognition is improved when using Herrie's NEC1300a firmware revision 105v11 available from his website.

http://herrie.rpc1.org

It seems 100% compatible but your Iomega will be displayed as an NEC model. One frustrating feature of this drive is it's absolute inability to record DVD-R at 1x despite the claims to the contrary in the enclosed literature. It will burn them at 2x and wreck them...

Hi Guys
All media seems to be wroking now - I think the problem may actually be with software The Princo DVD-R x1 burn at x2 in the Iomega drive, and Iomega sent me a firmware update (from 1.20 to 1.21) i stand corrected - the problem may have been the software third party NOT the DVD burner
Anyway Happy Burning!!!

I've used Shintaro (Princo) DVD-R's here in Australia, according to the box the blanks come in they're 1x, my Iomega Dual DVD writes at 2.1x, with no probems either.

BTW the firmware upgrade link above doesn't work, got any more leads as I want region free ;)

Well Princo 4x dont work 9sold as Shintaro in Australia) and neither do RitekG04 (sold as datasrtream 4x)!!!

CD/DVD reading seems little slow, but with cheap price can't get the best. I tried record to PRINCO 1-4X DVD-R, but Iomega DVD-drive jammed (Had to restart windows to drive work again). MAXELL and SONY dvd-r discs have recorded well. Could somebody else also try PRINCO dvd-r too to find out compatibility with the drive better?

This burner does not burn at 4 SPEED - All software including Windows XP say the maximum burning speed is x2 for DVD-R and DVD+R!!
DONT BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And Iomega wont even give you and SUPPORT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a NEC 1300A clone.
Use this link to download a hacked firmware to make the drive take cheap dvdmedia like Bulkdvd 4x and Fortis. The hack also makes the drive regionfree http://212.203.28.251/105xpfree.rar

Very very good quality/price.
I just have troubles using a Verbatim DVD+RW certified 2.4x ... It worked once, then I wasn't able to record/erase or format it anymore. I tried 3 different Verbatim DVD+RW discs with no success.
Maybe a future firmware update will fix this problem (I hope).
Other formats (DVD-RW -R +R) and other marks works correctly.
I'd like to test a DVD+R 4x but there aren't at the moment.

I got this drive for 289Eur here in Portugal, after getting undecided between this and TDK 440N and Sony 510A.
The price is what gave it away.
The TDK was up for 400eur, and the Sony for 439eur.
This drive was 110eur cheaper and it is the same drive as TDK.
It's based on NEC 1300A.
I really like it, I even placed some Media reviews on this site as well.

Just to end this, here is the review on which I decided to go for this drive:
