I was pleasantly surprised to find these 1 speed DVD-RW made in Japan. My Mac's Superdrive is only capable of writing -RW media at 1X. I thought I'd give it a try. The rest of the Sony DVD-RWs on the shelf were 2X made in Taiwan [likely RITEKW01].
I used DvdInfoPro to scan PIPO on my PC, which produced very good results. better than the scan from Maxell 2X DVD-RW [OPTODISCW002].

I bought Sony becuase I trust their quality. But for some reason, about half the discs give a "Power calibration error". The ones that don't give the error first time, don't seem to have a problem being rewritten. Not sure if it is a media quality control issue or what?

Very reliable DVD-RW.
I am using one for more than 2 years already, it has been written/erased/written for more than 500 times by now - still has no errors.
DVDinfoPro reports disc with 2x Media ID Code (with 1x Write Descriptor and Write Strategy though), however I haven't been able to burn any of them at this speed on any of the writers I had in the past (various brands/models).

Burned successfully and played on Magnavox 455/17 but after erasure disk unrecognizable. Tried a second disk, same consequences.
Have burned and erased and re-recorded on JVC DVD-RW version 1.2/4x 4.7GB and played on Magnavox player successfully.
