Disable everything!!!!! Take on AIWA remote control for your Sterio (If you have one) Point it towards your dvd player and press the random button. The message 'ajust' appears on te front of the player. Now insert your lovely region locked disc in and Bob's your uncle. If your friends have AWIA remote and you dont then you could always buy one of them 'allinone' remote jobbies with learning fuctionality.

Press the Repeat button on your remote control

Using your remote control enter the code below, note that you must know what Region your player is currently set to in order to know which code is appropriate

for Region 1 use 2, 9, 3, 3 and 4
for Region 2 use 3, 8, 7, 6 and 7
for Region 3 use 5, 6, 7, 3 and 2
for Region 4 use 7, 6, 8, 8 and 4
for Region 5 use 5, 3, 8, 1 and 4
for Region 6 use 2, 4, 4, 6 and 2

A code should be displayed on the screen indicating the current Region setting of your unit.

Press the 9 button on your remote control for Region free, or 1 for Region 1, 2 for Region 2 and so on.

Press the Open button on your player

Press the Standby button on your remote control

ok - this is what you've been waiting for... sit yourself down, have a stiff drink and follow these instructions to turn your 709 into a multi-region player using only the supplied Samsung 709 remote control!

remove any discs from your 709 and power the player up

press REPEAT on the Samsung remote control

enter the following numbers: 3 8 7 6 7
a number will now be superimposed over the Samsung logo on your TV screen - this number represents the current region setting of the player (e.g. for region 2 you will see 02)

now press the number of the region you would like your 709 to become:

1 = region 1
2 = region 2
9 = region free setting (probably the best unless you've got an RCE region 1 disc)

press the OPEN/CLOSE button on the front of your 709

press the red DVD POWER button on the Samsung remote

power the player back on and insert a disc of your choice
It looks like this hack works with all firmware versions and the word on the grapevine is that it works for the newest Samsung players (511-811)

HOWEVER, it does look like you may be limited to the number of times your player will let you change the region setting - if this occurs to you, then you may be able to get around it by resetting the player

Well done JasonW for finding the elusive hack and many thanks to the guys over at dvd.reviewer.co.uk for providing the inspiration!

p.s. if you've already hacked your 709 using the Aiwa/One-For-All hack, then you'll need to reset your 709 before you try this hack

This is from www.709online.com. A great site for 709 owners. Go there!
