VCD enable Hack !

1. Power on the player with no disk in the drive
2. Press "PAUSE" on the remote

[If your player is a non UK model, this number will probably be different - don't worry]
4. Press the UP arrow three times (the characters 04 Fd should appear on the display)
[This number may be different depending on the configuration of your specific model - don't worry]
5. Press "PROGRAM", "6", "PROGRAM", "5" (the characters 04 FE should now be displayed)
6. Press "ENTER" (the display should flash briefly)
7. Press "RETURN"
8. Power the player off and then back on
9. Play a VCD!
· If you are having trouble getting the hack to work, try pressing "STOP" on the remote before you press "PAUSE" for the first time.
· The above hack will also enable the 5.1 Speaker Setup menu which is of no use on players which do not have an in-built Dolby Digital decoder (e.g. DVD-3000E and DVD-4730). Therefore on these players perform the above procedure but exchange steps 4 and 5 for:
4. Press the UP arrow three times (the characters 04 9C should appear on the display)
[This number may be different depending on the configuration of your specific model - don't worry]
5. Press "PROGRAM", "4", "PROGRAM", "5" (the characters 04 dE should now be displayed)

This "hack" is just an update of the ones I've read on here and on other sites.
I spent a few hours tonight playing with the variables in my Zenith DVC2550C 5 disc changer, and all the hacks work for it that are listed on the zenith and lg dvd players listings because lg and zenith are the same (as I've read from online research) on the inside of their machines I guess.
This "hack" enables/disables so far these four items on at LEAST my player, maybe all others, maybe some others, but give it a try.. it enables MP3 cds, VCDs, the Dolby 5.1 system (only REALLY useful if you have a decoder built in) and the TV Output stuff.

1. Turn on system with no disc, wait until "NO DISC" is displayed.

2. Press pause on remote.

3. Press the following sequence: 1, 4, 7, 2 (This enables you to edit some of the system variables if you would call them that)

4. Press UP 3 times to get to the 04 variable (on the left side) and on my display it originally was 0C but it might be different but it shouldn't matter.

5. This is a 16 bit variable, where the bits are flags: 01100110 activates the four listed items above, but I can't figure out how to activate HD yet, which is possibly also on my machine. That number is 66, so just enter 66 on the number pad.

6. Press Enter

7. turn machine on and off.

8. play with the stuff that works.

woo I'm happy I typed all this now I can go to bed. it's late.
by the way on my model there is a blank space still below the TV outputs part in the Setup menu, which I think is maybe a high definition setting but I haven't activated it yet.

This is an update to my own hack I posted on this same page. This stuff does work for my dvd player, and I've gotten emails from people who it didn't work for. I guess it must work for lots others though who are doing the hack and not having problems.
If you try the hack, make sure you make note of the number that is in the 4th variable spot before you change it to 66. If the video and/or audio start stop working return that number to the original using the same proceedure.
