I installed SubtitleEdit over a year ago. It worked great. A few minor errors that was easily corrected. I recently started using it again, and I unfortunately installed an update. Now, it can take almost as long to correct the errors as the show is long. It continuously makes errors. A show with a character named B.J. (displayed in CC as [ B.J. ] )can convert into a dozen different 'words', such as " 5.] ] " or the number 3 with some gibberish etc. The lower case L often gets inserted as a slash ( / ) in the middle of a word or name. The music symbol.. Sometimes it's right, sometimes it's a bloody mess of letters, numbers and or symbols.
When it comes to italic text, just hold your breath. Often with a 2-line caption that has only the first line italic, it will put an extra or somewhere on the second line. In fact, it can even on some occasions insert them anywhere on a line, even if there is no italic text.
Short phrases like "just I", and "can you" and sometimes 3 or 4 words get combined in a nonsensical way. I just don't know how the so-called spell-checker, for lack of a more accurate term, can miss this correction. How can 30 be changed to 3O... ? Shouldn't a number be easier to detect than trying to guess why you have 3 O's.
On the flip side, the time detection at least allows you to sync the text with the speech. |
