after using ATI this software is a dream.very low cpu useage.Ive been looking for an OTA dvr for some time now. not sure why it hasnt caught on but this paired with a pinnacle showcenter 200 makes an excellent front-end back-end dvr.thre is another little program that you can download from the watchHDTV site called dvr-ms2mpg that you have to run first before the showcenter will play the files. If you have an ATI hdtv wonder this is great software for you.

I was unable to get the software working which came with my ATI HDTV wonder. After about 15 minutes of fiddling WatchHDTV worked great.

Thanks for adding this tool to the site.

I have tried it yesterday. I have ATI MMC (with ATI HDTV wonder)
and ADS InstantHDTV (with BeyondTV 3.8). WatchHDTV takes
a significantly less CPU time when watching HDTV. For Beyond 3.8,
it pushs my CPU time to over 90%, causing the viewing shutters.
ATI uses ~55% CPU. It sometimes shutters. WatchHDTV takes about
~40% CPU and picture looks great. Another advantage is that you
can edit a channel listing file (text file) to specify channels
you would like to receive. Because the signal comes to my location
from different direction, regardless of which direction my antanna
point to, I always have some channel missing for both ATI and
BeyondTV. It takes several minutes for ATI and BeyondTV to pick
up the missing channels by changing antanna direction and re-scan.
But for WatchHDTV, I do not need to re-scan.

The tool could be a very useful one for me to replace both ATI MMC
and BeyondTV. But there are two problems which prevent me to do so.
The major problem is that it records in dvr-ms format. This makes
it difficult to save the recorded program in DVD. There is a very
limited tools available to convert dvr-ms to other formats. (drv-ms
created by M$ probably due to copy protection reason, so it is
understandable why it is not easy to convert it to other format).
It this tool will record the HDTV signal in .ts or .tp format, it
probably will be more useful. The minor problem I had is that the
program has a very limited support for HDTV cards. It works with
ATI HDTV wonder, but it does not work with InstantHDTV card.

Due to this two reasons, I will still use ATI MMC and BeyondTV at
this moment. But I will give this software a high mark. Becuase it
is stable, it is easy to install/use, and it is free (at least at
this moment).
