Audio time stretch only in full pro-cent value steps. It is not enough precise for align it to the video duration.

Spent 15 min to edit a TV movie Recording to remove commercials and selected a 1280x720 MKV file and after 15 min. it was only at 1% and no way to see the progress?????? Even the freeware out there does that. Uninstalled it and would not recommend it as it is WAY too SLOW. vidcoder will do it in less tha 50 min for a TV movie.

Stay away from version 2019.09 Beta if you are exporting to x265. The videos do not play well in many devices. I didn't have the same issue with version 2019.08.16.

Linux version (appimage) does not run on Debian 8 (Jessie) as claimed on the developer's site (at least not on mine). It depends on GLIBCXX 3.4.21 which isn't supported by Debian 8.

Probably one of the most stable open-source video editors out there for Windows.

However, Kdenlive has more features than ShotCut. However, ShotCut has better cross-platform support with binaries for Windows.

I have been using ShotCut for Linux for a while now and I consider it the best legally free NLE currently available (never tried it on Windows) for the hobbyist. Blender has more advanced editing features but Shotcut is easy to use and figure out and works with every format I have thrown at it. The comment the other poster made about "no editing without re-encoding so instant uninstall" is nonsense, by defintion if you edit a video you have to re-encode. With ShotCut you do have the option of a lossless export which you can then feed to your favorite encoder or you can encode from within via x265, x264, vp9 or whatever else you want.

Highly recommended.

Excellent tool, especially for one at such an early stage of development. Timeline editing is still a work in progress but as a simple playlist or fast single track editor, this little tool is superb. Tons of potential here.

Review by videomi on Feb 4, 2014 Version: 14.02.03 OS: Windows 7 Ease of use: 10/10 Functionality: 8/10 Value for money: 10/10 Overall: 10/10

I had to update my display driver to get this program to work. The pros are it's pretty, it has color grading wheels, it has image stabilizer and various other filters. It also imports and exports a wide selection of formats.

The cons are it's very limited as an NLE, It only supports 1 track layer, It's supposed to import xml, but it wouldn't open an xml file I exported from Vegas.

All in all, it's got potential to be a good free NLE. Right now it has about as much abilities as Virtualdub, maybe a few less...........

Has the potential to be the best free editor I have ever come across.
I noticed a small sync issue on FLV to mpeg-ps conversion. Nothing too bad.
Now, can someone tell me how to join the clip list in-program for export?
