I bought this unit at PC Club for $79 w/10 rebate. I also bought their dvd+R 4X disks at $20. I installed it in a external USB case. Using DVD Shrink and DVD decrypter I burned 20 movies with no problems. Have yet to try 8X. Can this unit be made to do write dual layer?

This DVDRW -+ drive is great I just upgraded from Liteon 411S drive. Better drive design, quiet burning and alot fast when burning. Works great with Ridata 4X - or + discs.

I bought this burner to replace my TDK 840g. Seems to Memorex 8X DVD-R at 8X. Tried Verbatim 4X dvd-r, but would only burn them at 4X. Not a bad burner for the money.

I bought the sohw 1213s with high expectations. Anyway i have a tonne of Datawrite grey 8x (FUJIFILM03 DYE)dvd-r's and they only burn at 4x. If that wasn't bad enough, i then upgraded the firmware to TS09 (from original TS08) and now the leadin time on dvd decrypter is 2-3 minutes. So burning a dvd takes about 18 minutes. It's probably just a compatibility issue with these discs. I sent three emails to Liteon on this problem over the last four weeks and i have yet to recieve a reply. Needless to say Liteon won't be on my list when a buy a new writer.
