I bought a 50 pack of Sky from yesbuy.net and when I received them and took off the shrink wrap, I was surprised to find that over 2/3 of the blanks looked like my kids had run through them. There were marks all over the silver top but luckily no scratches underneath. I decided to give them a try. My burner would only recognize a few of these that I got.

I will never get these again, very crappy! I have been burning dvd's for a year and cd's for a few years and this is the worst media I have come across.

These disks comprised my third order from YesBuy.com. My first purchase from them was a 50pc spindal of Princo 1x which worked fine with 1031 firmware. After upgrading firmware to x032 I also upgraded my next DVD-R purchase to SKY 2x (MXL RG01) and was pleantly surprised with flawless 2x burns and good compatability with all players other than an APEX AD-1201. Because of this I decided to duplicate my purchase with another 100pc SKY 2x. Well, YesBuy.com decided to provide me with SKY 4x (AN31). With this I lost all ability to burn 2x using my Toshiba SD-R5002. In an attempt to get beyond the 1x I upgraded yet again the firmware to x033 but gained nothing. I also upgraded to Nero6Ultra. Although this Nero upgrade did not yeild a burn speed greater than 1x I did get an improvement in playback compatability. I can now play these disks in the Apex!

I buy 50/100 packs of these from YesBuy monthly. If you buy 2x disks they still ship these, saves $5. I get a couple coasters every once in awhile but are usually hard locks with something else as the cause. My last bundle had some the Pioneer wouldn't even recognize. Otherwise I am very happy with these considering the price. Plays in all 4 of my players.

Horrible, Horrible, Horrible. Bought a 50 pack from yesbuy and have used 8 so far. I only burned at 1x since these are very cheap disks and had no problems with the burning. After burning, every single disk so far has a couple of unreadble sectors in about the same area. Drivespeed shows very erratic read speeds after about 3.2 gigs. Stay away from these things if at all possible.

I have ordered twice from yesbuy.net...
first batch is small qty to try out...
everything went smoothly... (can burn at 4x speed)

but then my next order is like 500 in qty... turns out 200 of them is bad !!! >:-I

it seems like they have no appearent defect... but they all share the same "serial #" or "batch #"......

will talk to yesbuy.net and see if I can return them....

will let everyone knows how it comes out....

I'll probably try princo since it seems like rating is better....

(when disc is bad... it can still burn without pblms... but after burning, it cannot be read....)

I am using Windows 2000 Professional and Nero ver 5.5.10.50 with a Sony DRU500a drive and I have been buying and using several brands of cheap 4x -R media SKY being one of them. I was never able to burn faster than 2x until I read the posts in this and another forum. I had flashed my firmware to 2.0f but had not followed the correct procedure.

I did not know you had to disable the DMA transfer mode when I flashed my Sony DRU500a to version 2.0f. I read this in another forum where they were talking about Windows XP, but it also worked for Windows 2000. Here is how you do it: Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager -> IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers -> right click on the Primary IDE Channel -> choose "Properties" the "Advanced Settings" tab
and change transfer mode to "PIO only" for both device 0 and 1. Do the same for the Secondary IDE Channel. You will then have to reboot. Be sure to disable any packet writing software before flashing, I removed the software. After flashing the firmware to the latest version, presently 2.0g you will need to go back and change all of these setting back to "DMA if available".

After flashing I could still not write faster than 2x with -R media, so I tried the following:

After flashing my firmware to 2.0g I went back into: Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> Performance Options -> Applications -> Virtual Memory -> Applications -> change, and set my Page file sizing for all my drives from the windows default to 3000 meg minimum and 4000 meg maximum (3 gig and 4 gig). After making this change I have been able to burn all 4x -R media at 4x. I can burn a full movie (4.5 gig) from my harddrive to a disc in right at 15 minutes! This is the same media that had taken 30+ minutes previously. Media I had bought online at 50 pieces for $38 including shipping! Cheap!

After spending my $100 dollars for DVD XCopy Gold, a pair of good programs, I got an E-mail from PC World about DVD Shrink v2.3. A free program that is excellent for ripping DVD's for recording to a DVD disc. Now I use this FREE program exclusively, it allows you to rip a copy of a movie to your harddrive, allowing re-authoring so it can fit on a single DVD, and then make as many backups as you feel comfortable with (with all of my kids and there friends I seem to loose about a DVD a week getting broke or damaged!)

I bought a 25 pack (AN31 media code verified with DVDInfo) from yesbuy and have burned 15 at 4X speed without any problems what-so-ever.

After doing some research, these discs are made in Taiwan by the
"Fung So Company" who also market the exact same "AN31" 4x DVD-r's under the following private labels:

SKY 4X DVD-R - Media code / Mfr ID AN31 (USA)
MIRROR Premium 4X DVD-R - Media code / Mfr ID AN31 (UK, EU)
INFOSMART 4X DVD-R - Media code / Mfr ID AN31 (UK, EU)
Eclipse 4X DVD-R - Media code / Mfr ID AN31 (AUS)

Also came across a brief note stating dye used by "Fung So Company" in AN31 DVD-r is far better than dye used in AN30 DVD-r (earlier batches), Though I have no way to confirm this but thought it worth mentioning...

I have checked and SKY 4x burns played on four different stand-alone players.

Pioneer 105 with patch (DVR-105 v1.33 - RPC-1 + 2xDVD-R + 12xRip)

Hope this helps....

I wouldn't buy these again. I have used 10 disks and of that, only been able to burn around 500 megs to two of them and 4.2gb to the third, all at 2x or less... the rest are coasters.

I wouldn't purchase from yesbuy again either, their support is non-existant.
