OK I've used the Toshiba SDK860 info by D. Chavez to apply this hack and this works great!! D. Chavez for president!!! (thanks man!) DO NOT FOLLOW incomplete info for SD39xx, it did not work for me. ----- 1. Power on the DVD player 2. Press the Open/close button on your remote control to open the drive tray and remove any disk 3. Press 2403960 4. Press 9 for multi-region playback. DO NOT Press Enter button on your remote control 5. You will see a 9 (region-free) on the TV (right corner) 6. Press the Open/close button on your remote control to close the drive tray 7. Power off the DVD player 8. Power on the DVD player and it is region free. The hack worked fine for me, except I had to enter the 2403960-9 code twice. I tried three times the regular way and maybe I started too soon. Entering it a second time produced the '9' in the blue box at the upper right, and since then it's region free. | |||

those same features/firmware-upgrade will most likely break the hackability of the player. One of the reasons I returned the toshiba sd-4990 was because the november-06 units had a new firmware that the code-hack to make Toshiba-players region-free are not applicable anymore. That, and the sd-4990 can't play or just plain chokes on some of my divx-files that my philips-642/5960 plays fine. | |||
