Version history:
3.5.4.0 Released: 21st March 2005 View entire changelog * Added: Support for setting the read speed on AOpen 1648 DVDROM drives. * Changed: Creation of an MDS file is now only 'forced' when ripping to a FAT32 drive (like how it was in 3.5.2.0), rather than when also ripping a DL disc. A warning has been added to the 'Create MDS File' option in the settings instead. * Fixed: 'Layer Information' being shown in ISO Read mode when there was an empty DL disc in the drive - it shouldn't have been! * Fixed: Hang on some usb/firewire drives (enclosures). * Fixed: Error on some 'dummy' images mounted in DAEMON Tools - caused by non standard UDF file system. * Fixed: Start button still being enabled in File mode even when no files were found. * Fixed: Problem of the burn aborting if 'Lock Volume For Exclusive Access' failed silently with a 'known' error. People who experienced this problem should really just upgrade their IDE drivers. Similar tools/Alternative to DVD Decrypter: SmartRipper,  vStrip Guides and How to's:

DVD Decrypter is a genius tool! It's a Masterpiece! Even today (2009), there is no software like this one, who has such usefull tools inside. Sombody who is a Programmer, should go on with the source code from DVD Decrypter.

Has worked perfectly on everything I've thrown at it using the file mode. Don't know what the other modes are for as I've never found anything to accept them, but it defaults to file mode so they don't get in the way.

..."good luck in whatever venture you decide to undertake in the future" apparently he has...Macrovision bought his app>

it is a really sad occasion when something as good as this comes arround and is stomped on with such relish. Shame on whoever saw fit to end such a good programme, I like many others have paid out many hard earned pounds in the past for programmes to copy dvd's be it for backup copies or whatever and almost without exception every single one I have tried has failed misserably to live up to its description on the package. This freeware software is exceptional it does exactly what you describe it does it rips the contents of the DVD to the hard drive. So sorry to see you go, good luck in whatever venture you decide to undertake in the future

Even with the stop in future development and ripping features aside, this program is still one of the most useful ISO read/write programs I have ever used. Ability to read MD5 files is gravy, I will continue to use the program for a long time simply for the ISO burning and creation options. Kudos to LightningUK for a simply unbelievable piece of software.

Development may be gone but it's still available by clicking the mirror sites listed at the start of these comments or @ http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/1011845169/1 Better grab it while you can.

iam shocked and saddned to see the end of a great piece of software which i have used for a long time it is sad that lightning uk has to give in to "corporate pigs" anyhow best of luck mate u done britain proud :)

I would be more than happy to carry the torch. The software is a diamond in a sea of coal. However, I'm sure the program is written in something like C++ or C# which counts me out from directly supporting the software. BUT, having managed IT types for 25 years on a large scale, I might be able to drum up the necessary human resources. Lightning UK, would you be interested?
|
|||||||||||||||
In answer to the comment from slacker, how about you? Nothing can be taken away from Lightning UK for his work with this programme, respect to him and all he has done.
|
|||||||||||||||
It is ashame the author has weak knees. In the interest of freedom, the author should pass the code onto someone who would carry the torch. Any takers?

The end of DVD Decrypter is a travesty! What app can do what DVD Decrypter did?
|
|||||||||||||||
I know this may be late, but I wish to offer my respects to Lightning UK for his efforts in making possible the backing up of many of my DVD's. I understand he has been dealt a blow that he cannot resist, so I say "Rest In Peace Lightning UK" for you have done your part and I also know that one day another talented individual will take on your burden and continue forth what you have been prevented from doing. These moronic software/dvd/cd makers fail to grasp is that you cannot by force of arms and the use of lawyers and governments hinder the human heart and it's endeavors. I guess I made an ass of myself enough for one day as I rarely have this much to say.

The best of its kind, but looks like it will no longer be updated due to some 'Movie Studio' getting there hands on it. A great piece of software 10/10 all round, just a shame it has to go ! Lets hope it gets resurrected in some other form ?

Well this just did what neither DVD X Copy nor DVD Shrink would - backed up my dvd with CSS on.

This is an extremely good,freeware DVD ripper.I always use this program to rip DVD's to my hard drive before shrinking using Nero Recode.If you have any problems ripping DVD's using DVDShrink,Nero Recode,CloneDVD ect.... then use DVD Decrypter to rip the DVD files to your hard drive first.

Great tool as usual, very professionally made program. Never had any problems with any version of it. Works well as a ripper for DVD2one. Guess I better get over to Paypal and donate again before my conscience starts bothering me. :-)

This tool simply does not work on my DELL 8300 WinXP and I had to reboot the computer.
|
|||||||||||||||
Works in WIN 98SE, 2K & WIN XP. One of the best and most reliable utilities/tools available. Using it for about 2 years now. Need a rip, not a problem. Guides available are straight forward and easy to use. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!
