The current videohelp.com description (see above) of this software is now inaccurate. Fengtao recently changed all of their nomenclature which is very confusing. There are now effectively three versions: trialware (30 days), payware (you pay for a license), and free(cripple)ware. All are loosely called DVDFab, but that seems to particularly apply to the trialware and payware. Supposedly trialware and payware have the same functionality, except after you buy the license all restrictions are removed. The free(cripple)ware is also known as DVDFab HD Decrypter, but it is no longer a simplified version of DVDFab. All versions are the same software, installed from the same .exe file. The installation .exe files are downloaded from different links and have different names, but they're actually the same. That seems deceptive, perhaps a commercial ploy, or maybe simply lethargy in their administrative and development processes. The functionality of the free(cripple)ware is supposedly the same as the trialware and payware, except it blocks ripping of recent movies for about 60 days (they say). However in my experience the free(cripple)ware is now poorly designed, uses obscure and poorly defined nomenclature, has only incomplete and out-of-date operating instructions, and is somewhat buggy and unreliable. That's unfortunate because it was previously a useful free utility for ripping almost all DVD movies. In my opinion DVDFab is greatly overpriced and I recommend against purchase. |
