Xvid inside AVI's can have issues with VFW based programs such as Virtualdub and AVISynth, eg frames being returned out of order.
As at Feb 2009, the Packed Bitstream AVI "fix" for xvid-in-AVI problems ONLY works if you use the latest XVID codec and not ffdshow's xvid decoder.

So, to use the "fix", always create/convert AVI with xvid content to "packed bitstream" and use the "real" xvid to decode instead of ffdshow. Unticking decoding xvid in ffdshow (both vfw and non-vfw) and installing the latest xvid makes the problem go away. |
