Software: StaxRip
User review: Like pretty much all conversion software, StaxRip is a waste of time. But hey, if video conversion were easy and we didn't have plethoras of competing container formats and codecs then we wouldn't need the thousands of competing and largely non-functional converters.

I didn't get any further than trying to load a file, any file, mpg, avi, whatever (mov apparently not supported) and every time I was faced with the undecipherable error message "Most sources are YV12 and thus a YV12 decoder is required. The decoder defined in the settings 'xvidvfw.dll' could not be located. Please install the defined decoder."

Wait, could it be that somebody forgot to put the commas around 'xvidvfw.dll', thereby completely changing the meaning of the error message? xvidvfw.dll is not the settings, but rather the decoder? And in addition to installing .NET (blech), I also have to find and install xvidvfw.dll? Just a moment . . .

Ok, now it wants me to install AutoCrop, whatever that is. I thought the StaxRip home page said installation is easy . . .

And now it puts up a message about "7 problematic applications detected". If StaxRip is easy to use, I'm going to have to crawl under a rock for the rest of my life. I can probably convert files more quickly with a hex editor. I only detect 1 problemati application here: StaxRip.
What's wrong?*:
