I was using Divx 5.11 pro, using the modes that take forever to encode. But Xvid v1.x blows away the quality of the divx codec and in a fraction of the time.
I find some of the settings can be a bit daunting. The bitrate calculator helps a lot, and being able to specify target sizes is a pretty good feature.
Can I advise anyone using this codec that if they want to make an xvid that'll work in an mpeg4 compatible DVD player (e.g. Kiss players), then they should NOT use the quarter pel or global motion compensation. Shame, I know, but not all players can handle this. |
