Not sure if I should post a comment based on just one use, but here goes anyway. I needed to edit down a WMV file, and wasn't finding a lot of good freeware options. AVIdemux is listed here as supporting that format, but it is not one of the formats specified on their Load File list. I was somewhat skeptical based on the age / abandonware aspect of Movica, and a bit wary based on the comment about crashes in Win-7 64-bit.
Well, first, I can confirm what alshebl4ever reported. Rather than take my chances, I just cut to the chase and tried the older 0.6.2.1 version. It installed, it ran, it worked. I can also endorse the comments by Erg322. The program's design appears to be intelligent and straightforward. The use of it was (for me) much easier, simpler, cleaner, more free of glitches or frustration than has been my halting attempts at using other editors like AVIdemux, VideoRedo, and VirtualDub. There _was_ some clunkiness in the FF or FR navigation, the not-that-smooth or finely controlled manual scrolling through the video via dragging the button, or keeping Sound | Picture sync *while doing this.* BUT, I can forgive these things because the end result was quite smooth and everything I could have hoped for -- and most especially on an unfamiliar first try.
The As-You-Go Cut List on the right, with the later options for Toss It or Keep It etc., is intuitive and close to brilliant, in my opinion. I printed out the Help File first, but had only minimal need to refer to it on this initial job. I'm looking forward to further use of this program. Let me echo the sentiment expressed here by others that it would be a terrible shame if Movica has indeed ceased all further development. It has too much going for it to be abandoned ! |
