| i got this dvd-writer on clearance at staples for $31.50. i figured a 12x +R / 8x -R drive would be a great upgrade from my 4x -R only. when i got home, i ran dvdinfopro on it, and nero's info tool, and was surprised to see they both said it burned dual layer discs. i figured that was because of the "generic 12x dvd writer" driver. i spent $25 on a 3pk of dual layer discs, because if i wasted 1 i could give the other 2 to a friend. they worked! so, this player definitely burns DVD+R DL! i skipped through every file on the dvd, and they all worked. maybe i got lucky and got one that was manufactured later, i dont know. if someone else has this drive please run the info tools to see if they say dual layer capabilities. | A real junk drive. Got it at Staples for $33 as a clearance item. It worked fine for a little while, but started creating coasters at random with both DVD-R and +R media. It finally gave up on 4/9/05, and won't record to any media, not even CD-R or CD-RW. It gives me a power calibration error every time, although it works as a CD-ROM and DVD-ROM just fine. Upgraded firmware from 110I to 120I as well. I've had problems with I/O Magic drives in the past. STAY AWAY FROM THESE AT ALL COSTS!!! Get a well known brand such as Sony, or HP. | I bought this drive before christmas 2004(3 Months ago). Burned 75 - DVD-R 8x Media 56 - DVD+R 8x 10 - DVD-RW 4x No Coasters. I use the RW's daily. Bought it for $72 new. It's identified as an Accesstek DD203 Drive. Firmware was 1.10 flashed to 1.20 before use. http://www.iomagic.com/Firmware/FirmwareDownload.html I've backed up movies, store data, burned MP3 DVDs. I can highly recommend this drive if dependability is what you need. Unless you want Dual Layer. The media is still too expensive and Blu Ray is right around the corner. | Took awhile to figure out the model number it comes up as Generic DVD RW 12x Max finally pulled drive out and read it off the top of the drive Model Accesstek DD203 added new firmware 120I (was at 100I) and now burning at 8x on maxell -R 8x colored disc from Walmart , 8x on Sony 4x +R, and 8x on TDK 4x +R's and the Khypermedia 4x +R's also at 8x. Takes about 6 to 8 minutes to burn. using nero or dvd decrypter. Have yet to try DVD RW . I now have time to watch the movies I have burned. | Windows, Nero, Record Now, Dvd Decrypter all recognized drive. But had problems running drive on raid ide port (in which my other dvd burner was working on that port before I switched them )Yes, I checked the DMA have learned XP likes to go into pio mode on occasion . It was taking 50 minutes to burn so switched to secondary ide port and it now burns 4x DVD+R's at 4x using DVD Shrink in about 15 to 20 minutes. Haved used sony disc and khypermedia disc (all 4x DVD+R's) Haven't seen any 8x or 12x disc at any stores yet. I/O Magic website sux went there forum was down and haven't seen any firmware to download. $99 dollars at circuit city. Rate it a 5 currently Untill I test it using other software.
