April 21, 2004 Post region code/hack comment
PostRegion code hack posted by Stephen A. Edwards, April 21 2004:

I bought this player from J&R in New York, so it was a
Region 1. I used the well-publicized hack using a Palm
using the OmniRemote software, e.g.,

http://www.home.zonnet.nl/jeroenverhaar/en/
indexdvd.htm

It helped to know two things:

The player needs to be on (i.e., not in standby mode)
for it to work. It took a few seconds of feeding the code
to the player before my display changed from "NO
DISC" to "---------" and let me enter the "222 222 005
255 Play" code from the remote that came with the unit.

One other dumb comment: the player displays "-----"
immediately after it has been turned on (i.e., switched
from standby). This is NOT the time to enter the "222..."
code.

I verified this allowed both Region 1 and Region 3
DVDs to play on this unit. I have not tested any others.

Thank you Philips for building such an easily-hacked
player, and thanks to all who post such information on
the website.
