PostRegion code hack posted by kkoh, September 24 2010:

I have just bought this Blu-ray player from Costco Canada for $99.

When I booted it up, the user interface is exactly the same as the Seiki BD-660(which I also bought from Walmart Canada for $88). I assume that they are both based on the same HW/SW.

When the Home, 8, 5, 2, 0 sequence is used on the HP BD-2000, it takes me to the Factory screen on which Java version, DVD Region Code and Blu-ray Region Code are shown. It is the exact same information/screen shown by doing Setup, 8, 5, 2, 0 on the Seiki BD-660.

The only difference is that on the BD-660, you can change both the DVD and Blu-ray region code by pushing the desired region number on the remote(0,1,2,3,4,5,6 for DVD and 1,2,4 for Blu-ray Region A, B, C). With the BD-2000, the region codes can only be viewed and can not be changed.

Also, selecting a different "Country Code" in the system setup does not change the region codes.

Even though the BD-2000 looks much better cosmetically and can handle more video file formats, I am keeping the BD-660 and returning the HP.
