Here's the steps for anyone that wants to try. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BREAK YOUR UNIT!!!

    3 Hour Mode:

    1 - Search for bytes: 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 03 00 00 00 1B
    2 - Change 1B to 1F
    3 - Search for bytes: 00 00 00 07 00 1F FC 00 at very beginning of ROM
    4 - add 4 to first byte before 00 00 00 07 (in Rom 1097 it would go from 1C to 20).
    5 - Search for first occurance of bytes 4B 45 59 30 43 50 52 4D
    6 - add 4 to first byte before 4B 45 59 30 43 50 52 4D (in Rom 1097 it would go from 35 to 39).

    Remove Macrovision:

    1 - Search for bytes: 55 53 00 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00
    2 - Change last 00 to 01
    3 - Search for bytes: 00 00 00 06 00 1F F8 00
4 - add 1 to first byte before 00 00 00 06 (in Rom 1097 it would go from FE to FF).
    5 - Search for the first occurance of bytes 4B 45 69 30 43 50 52 4D
6 - add 1 to first byte before 4B 45 59 30 43 50 52 4D (in Rom 1097 it would go from 35 to 36 or if you have already applied the 3 Hr. patch it would go from 39 to 3A).

Burn to CD, insert, reboot ILO and there ya go!!!! Merry Christmas!!!!

  2. Now if only someone would supply the 1097 firmware to be hacked.
If you upgraded to the 1095, you can NOT flash the hacked 1095 firmware.

There's a 1097 hacked 3hr and macrovision at the site now.

    1097 Hacked
    Filename: WMEA1097.E20

    Use at your own risk.
Hacked to include 3-hour mode and disable Macrovision

  7. Which version should I try? I have already done the 1095 (non hacked) firmware.

Has anyone tried this an it works?

  8. @telemike: you'll need the 1097 hacked firmware, then. I updated mine earlier, and it seems to work flawlessly.

To make small quick jumpy movements. The pictures on the wall jitter whenever a truck drives by.

Usually up-and-down jitter on some LiteOn units once hacked. Does this do it too?

I don't have the Ilo recorder so I can't answer your question.

I know the dictionary definition of jitter. I just wanted to know exactly what it means in terms of video, and what causes it. Field order wrong? 1 pixel vertical shaking on sharp horizontal edges because of interlace? From your description it doesn't sound like either of those.

This was a phenomena also seen in some old DC cards. With those, it was a dropped frame, and then the unit was supposedly playing back field order correctly, but flipped. Something along those lines. Several people have mentioned this, and this topic was discussed in depth on the LiteOn forums when they existed.

  17. Easy to check. Record one of the news channels with text scrolling horz. Its a binary item. Will or wont. Also good to check lipsync.

If this messes up can you reload a "non-fixed copy"?

    junkmalle;

When I had jitter on my LiteOn 5001 it looked like a one pixel vertical movement, up a line then back down, at about 4 per second, but it wasn't rhythmic, it seemed to stutter a bit.

  22. Just did the 97+extra patch. Not bad. 3 hour is 1/2 screen like EP but more bits.

Thanks for the sample Smurf. It looks like, every now and then, a field was dropped and the previous field was duplicated to fill in. When a bottom field is dropped the picture jumps down a line, when a top field is dropped it jumps up a line. So basically, it's dropping fields (about 1 in 7?) rather than frames. Interesting.

Supposedly, it's more like one frame/field is dropped, then the signal goes batty after that. It usually straightens itself out again after a while.

I upgraded my LiteOn 5001 with new 1176 firmware(LNEA1176.DSU.upd.once). Then I tried to load the hacked 1176 and it would not load.

    Now I found the solution:

    1. Download the 1176 system file from http://www.liteonit.com/DC/english/images/zip/FW_5001_5006/LNEA1176.DSU.0101.014x.rar

    2. Apply the above hacks. (Notice:the values will be different, but rules are the same.) This hacked file will load and add macrovision and LP.

Not real helpful. Any way to provide a final file? Or a list of the values?
And how does it handle the infamous 5001 jitter?

Just noticed the file from the link I gave had been changed. The newer version does not work. The older version I downloaded last month did work. I can e-mail you the final files, if you want. Just let me know.

edit: The current version does work. You just have to load the unhacked firmware first before loading the hacked version.

  28. What does the Macrovision hack actually achieve when applied to this unit? For example, will it allow recording from another DVD player, or from a VHS VCR? I have a lot of old VHS tapes I'd like to put on DVD for personal use.

Also, how would it compare to a hacked DVD player, like my Apex AD1500?

  30. I understand that it turns of MV!

What I'm asking is does it affect the incoming signal, the outgoing one, or both?
