    Hi Gurus,

I have this minindv which has my wedding recording. This recording was done using a professional camera. When I am trying to watch this recording in my canon Zr45 the movie has blurry imgaes.

I don't know if my minidv is corrupted, its been 2 1/2 years since that tape was recorded.

Is this becuase the format in which it was recorded was different then what my camera is trying to access.

    Appreciate your help.

    Thanks...

All miniDV devices should be the same. It's hard to know exactly what you mean by blurry, but I would think the problem is simply old tapes or your camera. Can you verify the tapes in another device?

I didn't try these tapes in other camera but other tapes recorded in this camera are playing ok.

So can it be the tape problem?

  4. can't really be a tape problem. it's digital, so either there is picture or there is not. a bad tape would show dropouts not blurring. try viewing on a tv or transferring through firewire to your computer.

I am using USB cable to transfer the movie and movie maker software to capture the video. If it does not show properly in the camcoder then how will it get transfer to PC as PC is capturing what ever is show in the camcoder.

I bought a firwire cable but USB was easy to use.

If it transfers and plays normally on the PC, then the issue is the camera.

That's the problem. Use FireWire - it's just as easy and much, much better.

Transfer type (ie: USB or firewire) won't affect quality. Firewire is faster, but they will both transfer the same data.

I can identify the pepole in the movie but the picture is not clear i.e what i mean by blurry.

Thanks for you guys help. Let me know if you have different idea.

  10. Often, USB transfer is MPEG-1 - I'm not familiar with the ZR45.

With DV, failing tapes or heads would most likely give blocky video.

bupeshtandan - how does the video look when viewed on a TV? One possibility is that the DV decoder on your PC is set to use half-resolution. Are you playing the captured files in Windows Media Player or just watching them in Windows Movie Maker? Can you provide a screen shot of a frame? Is it possible that this is how the tape was originally?

Very few camcorders transfer full resolution DV over USB. For most it is CIF 352x240 intended for network streaming.

  12. According to the ZR50/ZR45 manual, the USB connection is for still images from the memory card.

Its like without even going to PC if I look at the tape using the camcoder screen its showing blurry images. USB and firwire cables and other stuff comes later.

What i meant to say that if its not playing good in camcoder how can a software capture it. Software can capture whatever is played by camcoder. Right?

I got this tape from the professional photographer and I never looked at it as I had DVD but as DVD is now corrupt I went back to tape to get the video.

    Thanks Guys.. Appreciate your help..

Evaluate on a good TV monitor via S-Video connection first. Do you know what camera was used for the wedding? This might have been an analog to DV transfer.

If analog, try to get the original tape from the shooter. If the DV tape is the best you have capture a few frames and post here so we can see what you have.

    This is S-Video

Use composite (Yellow RCA) if that is all you have.
