I posted a few weeks ago, just when 0.94 was released and have since then tested this nifty tool thoroughly. My overall experience with it is excellent as it does what I need it to do very efficiently and quicker then other tools out there.
StaxRip and AviDemux have been my alternatives and StaxRip has been one of my favorites for years. However, since most of my conversions are now HD based, neither StaxRip nor AviDemux do as well of a job as Handbrake does. AviDemux keeps having aspect ratio issues when indexing the media clips and Staxrip as powerfull it is, needs much tweaking for each case to get it right. In this perspective these two alternatives still have much more tweaking capability, but if you need quick results without a PHD, this tool is the better choice.
Most of my conversions are based on transport stream files with HD video and DTS or AC3 audio. Handbrake takes this file type now without any issues and the result is a very clean compressed version of the original at half the size to 1/3 the size.
Also, comments like you need .net to get it to work is more of an platform related issue than the fault of the program. It's almost impossible to come across any code now that does not rely on .net one way or another. Maybe these folks should move to other operating systems.
Good work Handbrake team! |
