Yes, it is expensive. I can't disagree. It is a huge price to pay just to get my Blu-Ray and HD-DVD discs to play nicely without the HDCP complications.
However, it is updated seemingly every 2-3 days, continuously getting around newer methods that would make it inoperable. Unlike the free competitor (which didn't work at all for me), this product actually WORKS, works well, is updated, and the software vendor actually CARES about the clients in order to keep it working. That alone is a big deal in my book.
If you want to complain, complain about the HDMI/HDCP implementations which are so very limiting to people who pay good money for movies.
I'm using my copy of this to play back BR&HDDVD movies via Nero Showtime on my Dell 3008 monitor -- all while keeping my monitor resolution at 2560x1600. I've also used it to rip BRs & HDDVDs for discless playback. I'd note that on some discs, playback on difficult disc RIPS can sometimes work better if you navigate to the actual movie file instead of trying to play the 'disc' via the main menu. (this is not a fault of AnyDVDHD as the same issues crop up with the disc -- it's the fault of the varying disc protection schemes which make things difficult for a software player like Nero Showtime) |
