The previous comment about VLC "hijacking" file associations is perhaps unfair.
During installation, there is a step where the user has the option of selecting any/all file associations. I always uncheck all checkboxes so NONE are associated with VLC until I'm sure I want that association. While I have found each upgrade to be stable, there's always the chance the next one won't be; hence, my "no association" choice at installation. With drag 'n drop, VLC is always readily available for individual files, and it's easy to open discs and video directories.
As good as this program is, I continue to wonder why the author still has the version numbers in the more-or-less "beta" category less than v. 1.0. What IS coming in 1.0? Teleportation capabilities? ;-) |
