The good and the bad..........
The good:
This is a nice and user-friendly program. It produces great quality for H.264 videos on my xbox 360 (I use the PS3 preset, which works perfectly). Let me say it again- handbrake produces GREAT picture quality.
The bad:
I do have a couple complaints. Not any gripes, but just a few setbacks that have me searching for alternatives to convert to xbox 360 compliant specs. As follows:
(1) I have found the program a little buggy with the audio encoding. A couple times, Handbrake didn't produce the audio bitrate that i set it for. Not a REAL big deal, but I did end up having to encode my audio using Belight and then having to do some demuxing and muxing using Yamb. No biggie, like I said, but it was a bit time-consuming.
(2) The encoding time takes FOREVER and a day. And I mean that. Wow- it took so long to do a 2 pass H.264 encoding ripping from a DVD. I thought there was something wrong. And apparently there is something wrong because my 3.2 Pentium 4 processor just isn't up to the task. What do I need to get? An Intel Core 2 Quad to get the encoding time under 10 hours?
Conclusion:
Aside from these setbacks, Handbrake is a winner. If (and that's a big IF) you're patient......very patient. |
