I have graded VLC as 5 overall because of one unforgivable bit of programming misbehavior: when I installed it, it changed the file type of every sort of media file (.avi, .mpg, etc.) to "VLC Media File" and gave them all that ungraceful "traffic cone" icon. I have changed all the file associations to other apps -- mostly Media Player Classic -- but I can't get rid of the file type or the icon. It doesn't affect function, I know; but it bothers me constantly, and doing it without permission is damnably arrogant. |
