The console has no option to convert a DVD to a hard drive file. This would be confusing to newbies. I selected a folder in my hard drive for DVDFab Decrypter to place the decrypted movie. Reading some of the other newbie remarks, some people don't know that a program such as DVDFab Decrypter only decrypts to .vob and .ifo files and they have to then be converted to .avi, either divx or xvid, using a different program. These processes could be explained a little further, either on the download page or in a readme for DVDFab Decrypter. My ratings reflect this because I remember how confusing it was to find programs and learn what needed to be done when I was a newbie. It's not just experienced people who need these programs.
I tried to free copyright and protections on a DVD using several different programs . . . ImTOO (it converted the movie but the audio and video weren't in sync), DVD Decrypter to decrypt then AutoGK to convert to .avi (AutoGK couldn't compress the file), and Movavi Video Suite 1.1 (which gave me a message that stated that Movavi does not copy copyrighted or protected DVDs or CDs. My next choice was FabDVD Decrypter. I updated it to 3.0.3.5, ran the DVD through FabDVD Decrypter and it said "Process completed successfully," the same as DVD Decrypter. When I ran the 5 .vob files through AutoGK in order to convert them to an .avi file I received the message that "Video compression error: The source image format is not acceptable." Exactly what this means, I don't know, nor do I know what needs to be done to make the image format acceptable.
Whether this is a failure on the part of DVDFab Decrypter or AutoGK, I don't know that either. I've always used AutoGK but maybe a program other than AutoGK will be able to convert it to an .avi file with no compression problems.
